Myths about Smoking–Are there any benefits to smoking?
• It has been argued that smoking does have some benefits. The most common benefits that people believe are that smoking is good for stress relief, weight control and increased concentration
One of the most common reasons people give for continuing to smoke, or for going back to smoking after stopping is to relieve stress. The reality is that smokers tend to report higher levels of stress than non-smokers. After stopping smoking the level of stress in former smokers drops significantly.
Smoking helps me relieve stress
• On average, smokers do weigh less than non-smokers. When you stop smoking the typical weight gain is around 2-3 kg. The nicotine from smoking acts as an appetite suppressant and smoking also increases the rate at which your body burns calories. However the risks of continuing to smoke far outweigh those from minor weight gain.

Health benefits on quitting smoking
• Many of tobacco's health effects can be minimized through smoking cessation. The health benefits over time of stopping smoking include:
• Within 3 months, ‘circulation’ and ‘lung function’ improve
• Within 9 months, there are decreases in cough and shortness of breath
• Within 1 year, the risk of ‘coronary heart disease’ is cut in half
• Within 5 years, the risk of stroke falls to the same as a non-smoker, and the risks of many cancers (mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, cervix) decrease significantly.
• Within 10 years, the risk of dying from ‘lung cancer’ is cut in half, and the risks of larynx and pancreas cancers decrease.
• The British doctors study showed that those who stopped smoking before they reached 30 years of age lived almost as long as those who never smoked.
This is what you’re putting into your body when you smoke!!!
How to Quit ?
• The only way is to stop smoking!• Some people are more suited to the immediate
quitting approach• While others prefer to do it slowly and in bits• Also, it’s a good idea to have your reasons for
quitting in mind. They will give you the drive to quit
• When quitting, you might find it hard but don’t give up
• Realise that the first few days of quitting are the hardest
So we should realise that…
Cigarettes are killers that travel in packs
