• In addition, through debate debaters acquire unique educational benefits as they learn and polish skills far beyond what can be learnt in any other setting. At the very least, debate helps learners to see the power of deploying rational, reasoned arguments and compelling evidence in action.

shall be as follows:

In rebuttal, either team may present its speakers in reverse order.3. Preparation Time. A team shall take no more than eight minutes total elapsed preparation time during a round of debate.
Presenting a very brief preview of argument order before speeches, often referred to as a “roadmap,” aids in clarity of the round and is not considered part of the speech. However, debaters should not abuse this privilege by excessive length of the roadmap. Abuse may count against a team at the discretion of the judge(s).

Elocution Rules
• Participants will be given two suggested key verses from which they can anchor their talk. But they are free to use either one, or any verses which they feel best illustrate their topic.
• The speech may not exceed 5 minutes in duration. The time limit will be strictly enforced. A 30 second warning will be given.
• The speaker is expected to memorize their speech, and is not allowed to read any part of the speech from papers, notes, or cards. Use of index cards is allowed, but only for reference of outline and key points. Reading verbatim from note cards is discouraged and will result in reduction in the participants score.
