Web-based audio- and videocommunication between different sites, by means of a webcam, a headset, a downloaded application (Skype) or a webapplication (Adobe Connect, Flashmeeting, Yugma)
Types of webconferencing Business meetings vs. educational use Point-to-point vs. multipoint
AVNet offers support for different tools and has its own Adobe Connect server installed for experimental purposes at this stage:https://connect.avnet.kuleuven.be Also: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatconnectpro/
+Multicampus: toolkit Videocommunication > webconferencing
Examples Projectmeetings for international projects Assessment (pre or post) at a distance Internship support Virtual ‘speaking-hour’ Thesis defence
Types of support: Technical:
Adobe Connect Conceptual:
Scenario, organisational and didactical issues
+Multicampus: toolkit Streaming Media
Streaming media is multimedia that is constantly received by, and normally presented
(audio and/or video) to, an end-user while it is being delivered by a streaming provider. The name refers to the delivery method of the medium rather than to the medium itself.
The distinction is usually applied to media that are distributed over telecommunications networks, as most other delivery systems are either inherently streaming (e.g. radio, television) or inherently non-streaming (e.g. books, video cassettes, audio CDs).
Support of streaming video Technical:
VideoLAB – http://upload.avnet.kuleuven.be Conceptual:
Didactical use of video in education

+Multicampus: toolkitSocial Software (web2.0)
Social media is content created by people using highly accessible and scalable publishing technologies.
Social software are a set of technologies, tools and platforms facilitating the discovery, participation and sharing of content.
Examples of social media: Social networking, communities (facebook, linkedin, e.a.) Weblogs, Wikis Social bookmarking services Photo sharing, Videosharing, Filesharing, Slidesharing RSS: netvibes, pageflakes, iGoogle Google docs, Zoho Twitter
+Multicampus: toolkitWebcolleges
A webcollege is a college or class that has been recorded and put online via streaming video
It can be an entire college or just parts of the college
It usually contains the ‘talking head’ of the trainer and the slides (content), but it could be only audio, only slides and audio or only video
It is still in experimental stage
+Multicampus: toolkitScreencasting
A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing audio narration.
Just as a screenshot is a picture of a user's screen, a screencast is essentially a movie of the changes over time that a user sees on his monitor.
Considering the high cost of instructor / faculty led training and the relative ineffectiveness of typical computer based training (CBT) systems, screencasting is likely to become a very popular technique for imparting high-quality knowledge at a low cost.
