I left my survey up for three days and gathered 37 individual responses. These came from people of different ages, gender and parts of the country. This means that my data would not be biased to any specific answer band and would give accurate results.

From the survey I posted throughout many social; media platforms, the majority of the data was received from 15-18 year olds. From here this shows me that I should aim my music magazine towards this age band as 15-18 year olds seem to be easier to reach.

How Old Are You?

What is your gender?

The majority of the survey takers were female, however this may be biased as females may be more active on social media than males. I wouldn’t like to aim my magazine at a specific gender as a small amount don’t identify with male or female.

What is your favourite genre of music?

In this graph it shows that alternative and pop are the most popular, however other genres such like indie and punk would fall under alternative. From here, I would base my magazine on the indie/alternative genre.

How many of these artists do you enjoy listening to?

In this graph, it shows the top 3 most popular bands are The 1975, Arctic Monkeys and Fall Out Boy are the most popular. This proves my previous data about genre true as these are mainly alternative genre bands. The smaller bands however have slightly higher percentages than expected, which would leave me to believe people would be open to finding new, smaller bands to listen to.Many of these popular bands are only males, which I may consider when I make my magazine.

How often do you attend live music gigs?

This data shows me that many of the participants do attend live music gigs more than those who don’t, which could be relevant for attracting people to the magazine.A minority of people who took this survey are in their own bands which will have influenced the data of “more than 10 times a year” however they are big music fans themselves.

In a music magazine what would you like to see?

This data can assist in designing the magazine, where I can make relevant plugs and content to put on the cover and contents page. Interviews and Tour dates were the most popular, which I will consider for the double page spread.

How would you describe yourself? (Think about music taste, fashion sense, what you enjoy

doing)

This data shows me that people are quite polar opposites, where some are fairly shy, others are really confident with themselves. A lot of them don’t really care for their appearances as they haven't mentioned it, however really enjoy and rely on music to enjoy themselves. Some refer to themselves as “roadman” or “indie” which from here I will use as my target audience.

What would encourage you to buy a music magazine?

Using this data I can see what the most popular pull factors are towards music magazines, and possibly incorporate them into my magazine to attract a larger audience. A lot of the responses are referring towards the cover page where they like to see an image of an artist or band which stands out. However some others prefer freebies such like download codes, physical copies of music and just free stuff in general. Despite people being attracted to their favourite artists, many often enjoy seeing me artists which they may not have heard of on the cover or throughout the magazine.

How important is music to you?

The majority of people who took part in this survey claimed that music is an extremely important to them, meaning that the music magazine would have to be interactive and interesting so that people will include it into their lifestyle of enjoying music.

If you enjoyed a music magazine, how likely are you to share it with your friends and family?

The results from this question are really mixed, as some people would not share it with their friends and family however for them to want to share it may be influenced by the content of the magazine if it really impacted them rather than them not enjoying it as they wouldn’t want to share something they do not enjoy.
