Page 2: Audience Expectations

SummaryBasically, audience expectations are what the audience want to see in a film, including standards that they may have. As an example, if someone goes to watch a film with a BBFC age regulation of ‘PG’ then they will expect to be no bad language or themes that are likely to upset the targeted audience (children).

LinkLinking this concept of audience expectation to my own coursework, an audience has a criteria that they expect to be met when they’re watching the opening to a film: Lasts approximately two minutes in length. Choice of camera shots and angles provide good quality of viewing. The audience has some sort of understanding as to what is going on. Mise-en-scene elements should be of such a standard that the audience can see what

is going on within the scene. All of the different regulations should be properly implemented (i.e. age regulations,

etc.).

When I come to actually recording my footage and editing for the final piece I am going to have to remember this criteria to ensure that my work meets the expectations of the audience and is of good quality.
