These students are hands on learners. They need to have different materials to touch and feel throughout the lesson. The class is 70% white, 20% African- American, and 10% Hispanic. The African-American and Hispanic children are not like the white children. They come from a different culture. The Hispanic students might not speak English. Relating the months to the year to when their birthdays are. They are putting themselves into the lesson. This makes them feel important and they love to tell everyone when their birthday is. 4.) To make the lesson connect with the ones who love colors they could pick different colors to go with the months, such as holidays have certain colors. For example: February-Valentine’s Day would be red, March-St. Patrick’s Day would be green.

A: Analyze learner:

What is their learning style? What do the children already know? What resources do they have? Where are they from? Age? Gender? Grade Level? Culture? The more I know about my students the better my teaching and lessons will be.

This is a 1st grade classroom. Included in this classroom is special education students. These students are hands on learners. They need to have different materials to touch and feel throughout the lesson. The class is 70% white, 20% African-American, and 10% Hispanic. The African-American and Hispanic children are not like the white children. They come from a different culture. The Hispanic students might not speak English. Then there are 7 students that have a mild to severe case of ADHD. These children do not have a very long attention span, so the lessons need to be short and to the point.

S: State Objectives:

Audience: Teaching the months of the year to a 1st grade class,Special ed, 10 boys, 7 girls, 70% white, 20% African-American, 10% Hispanic. 7 students in the class have mild to severe ADHD. Behavior: My students will develop and demonstrate the months of the year Conditions: By:1.) Singing a song with the months of the year. This will help the ones musically inclined with learning the months. 2.) Looking the calendar and pointing to the months as they say them. This is for the visual learners.3.) Relating the months to the year to when their birthdays are. Patrick’s Day would be green.5.) For the special education students they can spell out the months with blocks. That what they can feel what the word is and remember it that way. ( The more ways to connect a topic to something else the easier it will be learn and the easier it will be for the students to remember that topic/lesson. Degree: With a 95%-100% accuracy they will learn the months of the year.

S: Select Methods, Media, and Materials

Incorporating the different learning styles I will have three different methods. The first method is visually seeing the months with colors that represent holidays of traditions from that specific month. Another method would be tactile kinesthetic. We would use letter blocks so they can feel the word when it is spelled out. The last method would be auditory. The song and saying the months repeatedly out loud will help those who are auditory learners.

The medias we would use for this lesson are, calendars, letter blocks, audio(music box), and overhead.

For the materials I would research and ask other specialist. In this classroom there are different cultures, students with disabilities, and other problems, so help and advice is needed in the classroom.

U: Utilize Media and Materials

I make sure my media and materials are ready before the lesson begins. The students are only engaged when the teacher is prepared and ready to deliver the lesson. Follow the 5 Ps.

E: Evaluate and Revise

Never wait till the end of the unit to evaluate. During the lesson I will listen for everyone to be singing, who is participating, who looks discouraged when we are reviewing the months of the year, when they are asked to point to a month, do they point to the correct month, if they are not developing the material then that child needs extra time and attention with that specific lesson. When you revise with the child they should be evaluated until they meet the degree of accuracy.
