AS Media Studies Coursework
Past example of an evaluation
This PowerPoint gives guidance for the following questions:
• Who would be the audience for your media product?
• How did you attract/ address your audience?• How does your product represent particular
social groups?
1) Who would be the audience for your media product?
• This student didn’t make a scrapbook so this question is slightly different to how yours will be.
• Use your scrapbook to answer this question, following these points:– Age range– Gender– Primary and secondary audiences– Lifestyle- job, hobbies, education, what brands do they like?– Similar products on the market at the moment? How will yours be
different? What will be your unique selling point? – Who is your ideal reader? Who do they model themselves on?

Gender:Gender:My magazine isn’t really for a particular gender, however I would have thought it would be aimed and more appealing towards females. I displayed this by the female cover star and the colour scheme is orange, black and pink.
Age:Age:My cover star is aged at the same age I would have thought my audience would be, so that the audience can relate.
Genre:Genre:The cover star represents the genre of the magazine by looking like a pop star ( wearing a dress, jewellery and lots of make-up). Also the ‘!’ at the end of the articles supports the genre as it is pop and that shows excitement.
This strapstrap, seen at the top of the page so it is one of the first things the potential buyer sees, is full of giveawaysgiveaways to attract the reader and to persuade them to buy it.
This buttonbutton,, states a competitioncompetition. The larger, capitalised, bold font grabs the readers eye.
The mastheadmasthead is a sophisticated font but in a vibrant colour, which addresses the target audience and the word “LYRiC” suggests brand new music.
The colour scheme I have chosen is Pink, black and orange because it is a very loud, colourful, exciting genre and the colours stand out well on the black, dull-coloured background.
The colour scheme also carries on into the double page spread as the vibrant colours stand out on the photo, so it isn’t boring to look at, however a different colour is used on the contents page so the reader doesn’t get bored of seeing the same colours.
These were results from an audience research task that I carried out on young adults aged 15-19.
Overall the conclusion drawn from the pie charts is that my audience like to:•Read magazines and novelsRead magazines and novels•Have Samsungs/ Blackberry’sHave Samsungs/ Blackberry’s•Like high street fashionLike high street fashion•Enjoy going on Facebook and YouTube for music Enjoy going on Facebook and YouTube for music videos.videos.

In all my photos My cover star is wearing highly fashionable clothes and make-up done (almost) to perfection, attracting the audience of pop and gossip with young girls.
Looks like a role model to the audience as they will think, “I want to look like that!” and so they will buy the magazine.
