IN TEACHING LEARNING PROCESS

NEED FOR THE STUDY

The pivotal concepts of education are teaching, learning, curriculum

and the learning environment. Teachers play an important role in importing

knowledge and Implementing the plans and programme of the nation of

these concepts, teaching is the agent to activate the process of learning in an

organized manner.

Teaching as conventionally understood is the act of disseminating

information to the learners. This probably is the concept of teaching held at

traditional teachers. But this traditional explanation is not acceptable to the

educators of today, since the technological advancements are astonishing

and bewildering. According to the changed concept, teaching is to cause the

child to learn and acquire the desired knowledge, skills and desirable ways

of living in the society. In other words, education is the adoption of the

individual to his environment, the changes that take place in him which

enable him better to function in the world in which he lives and he will live.

In order to know the full potential of a teacher, attempts must be made to

understand them properly. Their problems, strength and weakness should be

brought to light. The science teachers working at the high school level

should be aware of the objectives of teaching science at the high school

level. Today teachers often face number of problems in schools. Their

problems may be related toInstitution, Academic, Content, Teaching

methods, Teaching aids, Co-curricular activities and their teaching

competency andworkload. So the investigator is interested to study the

problems which are faced by science teachers in teaching at the high school

level.

Only a few studies have been conducted to asses the problems of teaching

science at high school level till date to the best of the little knowledge of the

investigator. Hence the present investigation is undertaken.

BACKGROUND OF THE PROBLEM

Science teaching involves experiments. Availability of required equipments,

Chemicals and assistants in the Laboratory may not be adequate in the High

Schools.Students strength is also more. Accessibility of Lab things is difficult.

The investigator noticed the difficulties of Science teachers during her

school studies and as well as experienced by her training in the Schools. In

this context that the present investigation who has specialized in Physics at

UG level thought of identifying the problems of High School Science

Teachers and hence the present investigation is entitled “PROBLEMS

FACED BY HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHERS IN TEACHING

LEARINING PROCESS”.
