This is a photo that I did for a photo project where the goal was to imitate a famous photographer, I chose to do it on Marilyn Minter. My initial goal for the project was to do macro, just like Minter does in some of her photos. Another goal was to do a grungy or body glitter shoot. The shoots didn’t turn out the way I really wanted it, but I feel that they did turn out really well, and as you can see from the photo above, it has strong compositional aspects, and the overall look turned out well. The major WoK that is seen through photography is perception and emotion. Perception is used in photography when looking at a piece. Everybody’s outcome of a work of art is always different; therefore, everybody has a different perception while trying to figure out the true meaning. For instance, someone looking at this piece may think “dark”, “glitter”, “intensity”, “focus” etc, but to the artist it may be “minimalistic”, “shadows”, “eye” etc. This shows that the perception of separate people influence the way that they look at a piece. I learned from perception in the sense that now I really know how people perceive different works of art, and it came as a realization that things can be looked at in so many different ways. From that, I think that I will continue doing what I’m doing now, but with the knowledge of how people view art, especially my pieces, and try new things like incorporating different aspects to make a piece narrower. The major way of knowing that is also in photography is emotion, which also plays a part in understanding a piece of work. This is because in a piece, the artist tries to put forth a certain emotion, mood or concept that goes along side an emotion. Through the WoK, emotion, a person trying to analyze a piece of art will be able to come to a reasonable conclusion of what they think is the meaning, mood, theme or overall significance of a piece. Someone who is looking at a photo can also use the primary emotions, such as, anger, happiness, fear etc. to put that understanding to another level. I believe that I have learned so much through putting my emotions into photography. This is because every time I try something new, whether it comes out the way I wanted it to or not, I can always say that I put my emotions into it. I have learned that, because of this WoK, I can really mindfully express every bit of emotion that I have going for the project.

Emotion & perception are key in learning because they are two of the major WoK, and because of that, understanding them is very crucial to knowledge, not only because of learning, but also in personal experiences. In every day experiences, you use the major WoK, and knowing what they are can add to your overall knowledge and make you understand things better. Because of photography, I have learned that emotion and perception play a key roll in how I produce a piece of work, but more over, how people view that and understand it.
