Introduction 1976- First 11 Bed Hospital opened at Madurai the third largest city in Tamil Naidu.
1978- 70 Bed Hospital, exclusively for free patients
1984- A new 350-bed hospital opened exclusively for free patients in Madurai.
In 1992, it started to manufacture in intraocular lanes.
It take 400 girls per year
It provide 2 lacks operation in a year
In 1992,it also started Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology.
It never give commission to another Dr. and any chemist or other.
It take full time Dr. through this it manage cost.
Dr. G. Venkataswamy
In 1918: Dr. V was born October 1st in Vadamalapuram, Tamil Nadu, India.
Govindappa Venkataswamy was educated at American college, Madurai.
He qualifying with a MSc in Ophthalmology at the Government Ophthalmic Hospital, Madras.
In 1945, he join with Indian army as a physician.
In 1947, he was discharged due to arthritis.
In 1956, he was posted to the medical school in Madurai.
In 1965, he was invited to USA to learn about the rehabilitation of the blind.
In 1971,he start Aravind eye care system with his family member.
In 2006,he was died in Madurai.
Vision“To focus on improving the total health of the country”
Mission“Eliminate needless blindness providing compassionate and high quality eye care to all.”
Operation
Two sections-
1- main hospital for paid patients,
2- free hospital for non paying patients.
Series of steps- registration recording vision
preliminary examination
testing of tension & tear duct function
Role for meeting vision
Cost cutting(factory setup, mass surgery).
Reduced time per patient(infrastructure, management).
Mass surgery(help in achieving higher surgery everyday).
Camp organized in rural areas(attracted people to come forward with their problems)

Aravind Eye Care followed expansion strategy
Expansion through diversification: -
The hospital started Aurolab in 1992 to manufacture intraocular lens.
Expansion through integration: -
The hospital itself started education arm Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology.
Expansion though concentration: -
The hospital opened its branch in different cities.
SWOT Analysis Strength:-
Goodwill.
Facilities to train and develop own manpower.
Excellent staff members.
Low cost of operation.
Weakness: -
No give incentive.
Paying less than market
