What is Gender? When most here the word Gender, they think: Boy

or Girl. This is somewhat true but what many don’t realize is that gender is who you see yourself as.

“Sexuality is who you go to bed with; gender is who you go to bed as.”

women happens in the workforce and at home.

Why are Women Treated Differently? Women have always been the figure in the

Women are sometimes treated as less capable or interested in working than men, instead of being treated as individuals.

Some Facts There is a greater number of women working

today but are less paid. Women are closing the gap in degrees earned,

power and prestige. Pay between women and men has barely

narrowed since the 1990’s

Page 13: Ap power point

Discrimination Women are not likely to surpass men for a

promotion within the same job. The most common term for this is “The Glass Ceiling.”

This expression appears to indicate a symbolic barrier within the corporate hierarchy where women are not often allowed to pass

Page 14: Ap power point

Not Enough Women Women are actually graduating at a higher rate

than men. It seems logical that the future of the workplace will belong to women.

More women are needed in the

workplace.

Page 15: Ap power point

History Repeats Its Self Women had significant salary gains in the eighties

and nineties which have now not only leveled off, but dropped off all together and once again men’s salaries are pulling ahead.

Page 16: Ap power point

Pregnancy in the Workplace Another obstacle that women have to face is

pregnancy. Many women have filed law suits about discrimination because of pregnancy and the number is growing.

Page 17: Ap power point

Pregnancy Discrimination Many excuses are used by employers

like: fear of health and safety of a pregnant employee is her job consists of any physical labor.
