ContextA major focus at MPPS is to improve teaching
practice through PoLT and Developmental teaching.
My focus : to determine what would make students run to an Italian lesson.
To find discover my students interests, needs and learning styles
To develop a DP in line with MPPS whole school approach
What did you do?Brainstormed ideas to following questions
using PMI chart then students completed individual survey and set future goals
Why do students study languages at primary school level?
What would students like to learn in Italian classes?
How do they learn best- Gardner’s Multiple intelligences, Discovering your Smarts?
Students are a valuable resource in informing me about my teaching practice and how best to adapt my practices to suit their needs
They were able to tell me what interested them and how they learnt best.
Teacher enthusiasm and passion is fundamental to effective student engagement.
My students are now armed with a sense of purpose, direction and understand the importance of taking ownership and responsibility for their future learning.

What did you learn contdThey confuse things that they don’t like
with things that they think they are not good at.
Teaching and learning is about understanding your audience, determining what their needs, wants and interests are and engaging them effectively.
My future pedagogic skills will reflect this knowledge.
