Paper WeavingUsing animal symbols, warmand cool colors and complementary colors

Choose an animal that best represents your personality.
Trace the animal on 2 pieces of paper.
Use watercolors to paint your 2 pictures, one in warm colorsand the other in cool and complementary colors.
When paint is dry, outline your animal in marker.
Weaving - an Art process wheresome type of material is assembledin an interlocking pattern to create things such as baskets, cloth, blankets, placemats and clothing.
Warp - the vertical strips on your weaving
Weft - the horizontal strips woven into the warp
Notice how the coloredstrips alternate (under,over, under, over etc.)when woven into the black strips.
On the paper with the shorter lines drawn on the back,draw a line the width of a ruler from the top edge.
Cut on the vertical lines but not through the line you just drew.This is the WARP of your weaving.

Now take the other piece of paper for your WEFT.
1.Cut off this strip and throw it away.
2. Cut away this strip and weave it into the first paper
3. Continue with cutting strips and weaving them until all strips are woven.

****Make sure you are lining up your pictures as you weave****
Once all strips are woven and pictures are lined up,glue the loose ends together.
Now, make a frame around your weaving bygluing your weaving inside a black piece of paper.Decorate the frame with a white pencil by repeatedly listing the characteristics of your animal.
Write you nameand class on theback of yourweaving andturn in withrubric.
1 inchCut on the wavy lines For the WARP -On one of your drawings, draw a line 1 inch from the top of your paper
Draw 10 wavy lines that do not touch
1 inchThen, cut a wavy strip and weave it into the warp paper (over, under, over, etc.)
Line up the lines of the pictures
Continue this process until the weft paper is all woven intothe warp
For the WEFT -On your other drawing, draw a line 1 inch from the top of your paper and cut that strip away
Secure ends with glue
