So, was there really a shipwreck we canpositively identify and associate with Evan Thomas?

No!

The good news!Initial DNA results show that the Y chromosome pattern is not British

S116+ (but negative for 6 markers of this type, so poorly-defined)

Strong USA ancestry bias in DNA databases means this pattern is absent from large commercial Y-chromosome databases.

Evan Thomas DNA matches just 1 in 1000 of closest population

Although no reliable evidence of shipwreck, the DNA does tell us there is a story.

Possible reason to be on the ship:

Austrian War of Succession?
