Why Did I Choose This Gifted Person?
I want to study her because she is a fast runner like
me. We are both fast runners. She won three gold
medals in a single Olympic game and I never won
a medal.
Early Life
In In 1960, she won three gold medals in a
single Olympic games. She was not allowed
to go to the same school as a white person
because of segregation. People were
treated fairly because of their race during
her early life.
Attributes
She is brown and she is a African American women, also she won
three gold medals in a single Olympics game.
Challenges
She had a disease called polio when she was four years old.
Polio causes people to be crippled. She had to wear a
brace.
Overcoming Challenges
At age eight, she was able to walk with a brace. Then, she
started using a high topped shoe. Wilma Rudolph never
gave up and kept gaining strength in her legs. When she
was about eleven years old, she didn’t need the brace or
the shoe anymore.
Gifts and Talents
She was a fast runner who
never quit. She qualified for
the 1956 Olympics in
Melbourne, Australia and the
1960 Olympics in Rome, Italy.
Episode or Story
In the 1960 Olympics she won three gold medals. During her
last race she sprained her ankle but kept running.
Contributions
She retired from running when she was 22 years old but
then coached woman’s track teams.
