Tagline The tag line gives connotations that something big is going to change in Walford as its going to change forever this gives the representation that something bad is going to happen and that there will be no going back.

Image – The image has been manipulated to have a red tint to the image giving the connotations that ‘Lucy’ is in danger also the image is very dark and there is a large amount of black negative space. Black gives connotations that something bad is going to happen, possibly death.

Synergy with social mediaSynergy is used to create hype for the story line. Here they have used a

hashtag for social media (twitter) to try to get people talking about EastEnders and the latest narrative strand. Similar to how many institutions

market films with online marketing campaign EastEnders is trying to get people talking as the ‘Lucy Beale murder story’ has gone on for a long period

of time.

Institution LogoThe institution logo is there for brand identity to let people know

where to find EastEnders. Also may appeal to some people more because of the BBC’s reputation for example not having

adverts during programmes .

Image – The image has been edited to look like flames/ fire this gives connotations of destruction, revenge and danger. None of the characters are looking at each other this could connote the idea of revenge, lies and lust. Institution Logo- The logo is

important as it lets people know where to find the show and also the reputation of that institution has an impact on who watches it. (For example 4 is stereotypically for the younger generation and therefore hollyoaks target audience will be people under 40)

TaglineThe tag line gives the connotations that ‘hollyoaks’ is going to have an eventful week. ‘change Hollyoaks forever’ gives the connotations of destruction and change. Making the viewer not want to miss it.

Date- The date is important for Maslow's ‘survivors’ as they like a routine and also lets people know when not to miss.

Student Exemplar Work – Textual Analysis

Synergy- used for social media sights Facebook and twitter this makes the soap opera interactive as able to talk about it and find information on it on other platforms rather than just TV and Magazine.

Also synergy the use of website for the soap opera allows people to view information on the soap opera from an online reliable source.

Image- The image has a black and white effect on it but highlights four things in the image in colour The sign is in colour saying ‘way out / help point’ and there is a pregnancy test also on the floor in colour this gives the connotations of an unwanted possibly teenage pregnancy and the struggle of what to do about it.

Tagline - The tagline gives connotations of danger . There is a white boarder around the text this could symbolise the purity and innocence of an unborn child and the black text could have connotations of danger / death.

The soap logo stands out and creates brand identity. The line underneath

Institution logo- The institution logo tells an audience what channel they can find the soap on. And also creates a brand identity for the institution and also the soap.

Conclusion

In my soap opera poster I will ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale - 1980) the use of social media and have a hashtag quote, maybe something like #WhoHasHolly, which will create a cross media convergence and allow the soap to be interactive as this will enable my our soap opera to be marketed on social media. I will also ‘repeat’ the institution logo as this allows people to know where the soap opera will be exhibited and creates a brand identity. A lot of the soap taglines are very similar for example ‘the week that will change Hollyoaks forever’ and ‘Walford will change. Forever.’ I do not wish to repeat this as I would like my soap opera poster to differ and have its own brand identity.
