Limiting Structures.A

1.Labial Frenum

2.Labial vestibule

3. buccal Frenum

4. Buccal Vestibule

5. Hamular Notch

6. Posterior Palatal Seal Area.

Extensions of posterior palatal seal:

1. Anteriorly – Anterior Vibrating Line.

2. Posteriorly – Posterior Vibrating Line

3.Lateral – Anteriolateral to Hamular Notch( 3-4 mm

distance from hamular notch)

2. Supporting structures of the maxilla:

A- Primary Stress Bearing area (Hard Palate And

Maxillary Tuberosity)

B- Secondary Stress Bearing Area ( Residual Alveolar

Ridge , Rugae Area)

Relief Areas:

Incisive Papilla , Median Palatine Raphe, Fovea

Palatine

Mandibular Landmarks Of denture bearing area has:

1.Limiting Structures.

2.Supporting Structures.

Mandibular Landmarks

1.Limiting Structures

Labial Frenum,

Labial vestibule,

buccal Frenum,

Buccal Vestibule,

Lingual frenum,

Alveolingual Sulcus – is the space between

residual ridge and tongue

Retromolarpad,

Pterygomandibular Raphe.

2-Supporting Structures Of Mandible is (Buccal

Shelf Area, and the Residual Alveolar Ridge)

3- Relief areas of mandible is Mental Foramen,

Genial Tubercle, Mylohyoid Ridge, Mandibular

Tori.

as Primary Stress darea considereBuccal Shelf **

bearing area.

Key Concepts in R.Prosthodontics:

** retention is the resistance to vertical forces or

displacement.

** stability is the resistance to lateral forces or

displacement.

**support is the factors of the bearing area that

absorb the forces of occlusion.

** palatine vault is consist of hart and soft palate it

may be U or V shape, U shape give more retention

than V shape.

** The torus mandibularis is a bony prominence

usually found bilaterally and lingually near the first

and second premolars.

** retomolar pad is one of the primary supporting

areas.
