Film Trailer: How does this create brand identity? The film trailer is able to create brand identity through the use of the same colours for all three of the films

product that I have analysed.

How are fonts, colours, language, mise-en-scene and images used? Fonts: bold serif fonts have been used in the trailer, when moving from scene to scene, offering more information

on when the film will be released and also offering more information surrounding the films storyline. Using a bold serif font is stereotypical because it emphasizes the violent nature of the film the overall tone that can be expected.

Colours: dark, basic colours such as black, grey and red have been used to suggest that the events will lead to pain and fatality through black, misery through grey and violence/destruction with red.

Language: dialogue between the characters is used to reassure the main protagonists family that he will return and that humanity will be safe once again. The language choices such as “don’t pretend you’re not well suited for the job” also help to add to the storyline and add context to the scenes. Language at the start of the trailer, helps to suggest that the characters conventionally are unsuspecting civilians.

Mise-en-scene: the film trailer uses helicopters, guns, cars, fire and smoke to portray the themes of danger and destruction, however, the trailer does not show what they are being used against therefore so mystery is preserved meeting the trailers aim to gain interest for the actual film.

How does this link to the other products? The film trailer links to the poster and magazine cover with the specific colours that have been used to connote

the film genre of horror. Also the products link in choosing Brad Pitt, the main protagonist, as the main feature in a majority of the shots and the picture on the poster.

How does this appeal to the target audience? This links to the target audience of teenagers and young adults because they can recognise the actor as part of the

film’s marketing. Also, the violent and aggressive behaviour of the film is well suited to fans of the horror genre. This film explores unlikely scenarios and plays on peoples imagination, the film trailer builds suspense for the film and encourages people to assume the outcomes.

Poster: Bold font for the title, reinforcing the films name that will become recognisable on all related products.Use of red and grey link to the misery and pain that are evident themes in the film.

Crushed cars surrounding the main characters suggest that there will be destructive situations in the film, before a resolution can be found.

MainCharacter is shown to be heroic in protecting his family from the chaotic situation around them, suggesting that he may be the saviour to more people in the film than just his family.

Buildings on fire, connotes the themes of chaos and destruction against earth and the human race. Also the urban setting for the film is used to show the most destruction possible has been achieved by the antagonists.

Poster: How does this create brand identity?

This creates brand identity through similar fonts and colour schemes being used for all three of the analysed products. Also the use of Brad Pitt, the main character, in all products makes the products more recognisable to each other.

How are fonts, colours, language, mise-en-scene and images used?

Fonts: the font similarly to the film trailer is bold and serif, suggesting the strong nature of the main characters in the film to be able to survive the zombie apocalypse. The “Z” is in red implying that there will be blood and violence throughout the film, stereotypical for the genre.

Language: the poster does not include any other language apart from the title, this choice helps to place more emphasis on the film’s title itself, and leaves the audience to speculate about the film.

Mise-en-scene: The use of crushed yellow New York taxi cabs and damaged buildings, suggests that the events that will unfold will be detrimental to a large number of people rather than just the main characters.

Images: The image used is of the main characters superimposed into the chaos of one of the scenes of the film. This works to emphasise the characters unsuspecting nature of their situation, which is conventional for the genre of horror.

How does this link to the other products?

This links to the other products such as the film trailer, because the same setting of the film has been directly featured on the poster, making it easily recognisable and interlinking. Also the colour choices are the same as in the film trailer where the title of the film at the end is in a silver/metallic colour.

How does this appeal to the target audience?

The poster appeals to the target audience of teenagers and young adults through its evidence of the films themes such as; violence with the use of fire in the background, destruction in the form of crushed cars and collapsing buildings , heroism with the male character looking ahead, compared to the female characters who are attempting to hide their concerns, and unsuspecting main characters with a conventional family being used in the unstereotypical setting of heavy destruction.

Magazine Cover: Popular/well known actor as main character in the film helps to build support and a following for the film.

Colours: red – blood, violencewhite – purity, innocenceYellow – unconventional > promotes positivity > gives the audience hope that the main character may succeed.

Mid shot of the films main character, showing the emotion and concern on his face whilst not giving anything away to the audience about the conclusion of the film.

Bold, capitalised font, reinforces the force of the film and the aggression of the actions.

Magazine Cover: How does this create brand identity? This creates brand identity through Brad Pitt, an established actor being shown on all products, and genre related

colours also being used. How are fonts, colours, language, mise-en-scene and images used? Font: The font is bold, serif, and capitalised for the title of the film and the title of the article, to reinforce the

violence and aggression that will be needed in the film, for the main characters to succeed. Also the bold font suggests that the film is aimed more towards male audience members because the themes could be hard to watch.

Colours: The use of red suggests passion, blood and danger to be important features of the film, matching scenes in the film trailer. Black is used once again to introduce the idea of fatality and depressing scenes for the characters and audience. White is contradictory and links the unlikely nature of the main characters as a normal family, who are seen as innocent in the situation.

Language: Language choices such as “epic struggle” for the headline in the magazine suggests that the storyline may be difficult for the characters involved, and their will be a range of obstacles that keep the audience entertained and the tension building. People that are not yet aware of the film, will be encouraged to read on and discover as to what the films storyline is about.

Mise-en-scene: The main character is shown to be in casual, dark clothing that meets the theme of a horror film of the victims being unsuspecting and regular everyday civilians. A map has been faintly included in the top right hand corner, which is a direct link to a scene as shown in the films trailer.

Images: His facial expression shows concern at the situation, but does not give the storyline away to the audience, who they are trying to encourage to pay to watch the film at the cinema. The use of a mid shot helps to offer his clothes and facial expression at the same time.

How does this link to the other products? The colour scheme links to the two other products and creates continuity for the audience. Also related products

with the same fonts and colours for the film, will work to reflect the film as a monopoly product, rather than a range of individual entities without links.

How does this appeal to the target audience? This appeals to the target audience, because the audience of the film can find out more about the making of the

film, in a first hand account from the main actor, whilst also new fans can be introduced to the films main storylines and character roles, building interest around the films release.
