Integrating the iPods in the ESL classroom

It’s becoming more common for us teachers to see our students paying more attention to there iPods, DS, mp3 and other technology equipments in our classroom. Rather than fight this iPod epidemic teachers can use it as an advantage.

• An iPod can reproduce 4 different audio formats.

• It can be used to listen to audio books.• This system also includes videogames.• Some have WiFi.• You can download different files from

internet.

Seeing around us the students with these headphone hanging from there ears can be helpful. Some students retain more information by hearing than by sight. You can record entire lectures, classroom discussion, review

games or short topic summaries.

Using iPods in the ESL classroom

• Create and share quizzes. You can actually create video Quizzes for your students with an iPod. They can see an educational movie and then go to the video quiz.

• Students can actually make there own pod cast, they can make there own music, theatrical readings and plays. They can record it and listen to it as an mp3. Listing to fluent speakers and recording themselves to practice on pronunciation.

Learning while they here music• Listening to music can really help.• Choosing a song it should have an appropriate

subject, and songs with specific types of adjectives and verbs.

• Grammar activities can include filling in the blanks for grammatical patterns, word banks, matching, organizing lyrics in strips, theme-related activities, open-ended questions, spelling and rearranging letters, and figurative language activities.

• It contains troubleshoots for any problems that may occur.

• Some downloads include iPod lesson plans• LearnOutLoud.com: this is a website that

gives you free audio books, lectures and other educational material that can be put on an iPod.

Using iPods

The use of iPod can bring more interest in the students they see the ipod like a cool thing. This motivates students, is fun and more interactive. some schools have already started to use the iPods in there classroom and it has been effective. Teachers should find a way to wake the interest in students. Bringing technology to our classes is just the way.
