will start to dance and mess around together but in the process of changing their outfits a lot making it look like an instant change of clothes almost like magic

3. The next scene will consist of lots of balloons all in the air and stuck to the backdrop, all over the floor to make it look like a pool of balloons. This will be used with the white backdrop to make it look less mad with all the balloons going on.

Special Requirements : (inc. details of props / costumes needed, preparation required) For the preparation of my shoot I will need the backdrop up in the media room, this will

include a green screen but will also need a change to the white backdrop. There will be several costume changes throughout my music video which will consist of

different outfits and different colour dresses. For another one of the scenes I will need 20-30 balloons to make the backdrop more

interesting and make it more fun. I will also need a wind machine. This will add a good, fun effect to the shoot and will look

good on the actors. In another scene I will need a chair for a good photo-shoot position for the girls to be in.

For another scene I will try and get my hand on some wigs and some photo booth glasses that are big and silly. This will look like they are having fun too and while the umbrellas are going off to make it look like the photos are being taken

Week 1: today I started my music video planning. I thought by getting all the planning out the way I will have more time to complete my actual video. I felt there was a lot to do so I thought the best way to do it was by making a production timeline. I organised how I am going to do it and when I should be completing the different tasks.

Week 2: this week I started completing all of my pre production documents. I started by filling out the actor release forms, the call sheets for different locations, equipment borrowing, equipment list, location recce, location contracts, personel details and the risk assessment. All of these things I could complete before even starting to film my footage.

Week 3: this week I started my draft proposal and my proposal. This was very time consuming and I needed to put a lot of thought into it as I wanted to get a distinction for this unit. I started by doing a draft proposal and I did that in the form of bullet points as I thought that was the best way to organise something that I wanted to write about in further detail. Once I had finished that, I started on my proposal. I outlined different headings which is everything I needed to talk about. Which included: description of intentions, outline of my music video, target audience, sound, costumes and props, editing, cast, inspiring music videos, filming and distribution.

Week 4: this week I made a start of my concept ideas as it was going to take a long time to complete. I needed to do some research into my song and lyrics and really make sure I know what my idea is. I created a power point that consisted of inspiring music videos, mood board, my intentions of music video, equipment needed, scene ideas, outfit ideas, hair and makeup ideas, song research, editing techniques and conventions, storyboard, mind map, song lyric analysis.

Week 5: this was the first week that I went out and filmed. I firstly filmed in room 11 with Rebecca and it went well. I filmed a lot of different shots of her singing to the song and the lighting I felt was very good. Once I had filmed I used what I had so far and put it into premier pro and made a start of my video. I filled in the bits that I had and made a note of what else I had to do to fill in the bits that I needed. I got the music track I was using from youtube and placed it into premier pro

Week 6: this week I was creating my presentation that we had to present to the class. We had to basically just make a powerpoint of what our music video is going to be like so my class mates know what to expect. It was being recorded aswell. I presented to the class this week. Now that was out the way I could quite literally just focus on finishing my music video.

Week 7: I still needed more footage to fill in some gaps so I filmed during my lesson with Rebecca. We used room 19 which had the photoshoot equipment in. I wanted to film Rebecca having a fake photoshoot so I put the yellow seat on the white background and had Rebecca sit on the chair with loads of little balloons around her which looked cool. I also filmed her with a grey background with bubbles all around her using a bubble machine but it didn’t look good with the grey background so I decided not to use it.

Week 8: now I had filmed everything I needed, it was time to put everything together. Now it was starting to look a lot better and more professional which I was happy with. Continued editing and adding cross dissolves and dip to blacks to add that extra effect.

Week 9: I carried on editing my music video

Week 10: I still felt at this point that I needed more footage to make it that extra bit interesting. It was a late call but I decided to go out and film Rebecca again. We went to an external location as all of my other shots were internal and it looked really dull. We went to Eastcote house gardens which had a lot of pretty scenes that I could use. I brought them back to school and added it onto my rushes log and added it to my music video and it looked a lot better than it did before. Week 11: editing my music video more and more to make sure everything had been filled with lots of different shots and a shot isn’t too long. Week 12: this week I had basically finished my music video I just had to make some final decisions. I got 2-3 peers to watch it and say what they thought would make it better. They said that I need to add some adjustment layers and colour correct it so I did that for every single shot and made sure it looked professional and not messy at all. I created the shot list and rushes log documents which I could only do once I filmed everything.

Details of Location;

I will be filming part of my music video is the drama studio at haydon school. I feel it is a very good location to film part of my music video as the room is made of black painted walls, and feauture lights on the ceiling, this means that

Address;Wiltshire Lane, Pinner, Greater London HA5 2LX

Page 11: All production docs

everything will be black except a spot light on the actor.

IMAGES;

Advantages of locationThe advantages of filming in the drama studio is that it is the perfect place to film music video in as I want it to be dark with a spotlight on the actor doing her makeup getting ready for the shoot..

Location Considerations (problems, timings, permission etc)Some problems I need to consider if I want to film in the drama studio is that it may not be free. There is lessons that take place in the studio meaning when I need to use it it may not be free. To overcome this I will need to book it in advance and make sure it is free for my use. I will also need to make sure my actress is free when I need to film in the location. Before filming I need to get permission off the drama teacher who uses the studio for lessons. I will do this by getting them to sign my location contract.

Location RecceProduction Details: music video Producers; Daniella Blow

Details of Location; Room 19 will be a good location to film the second part of my music video as it has the green screen and different colour backdrops. This means that I can use different scenes with different colour backdrops. It also has all the equipment used for a photo shoot in that room

Address;Wiltshire Lane, Pinner, Greater London HA5 2LXRoom 19

that will help me for my shoot

IMAGES;

Advantages of locationThe advantages of this location is that is consists of all the equipment (technical) that I need in this room, as it is quite heavy, it means I will not have to move it to another room.

Location Considerations (problems, timings, permission etc)This certain location has a few considerations to make. One of them is that this room is used by several different classes all doing different projects. This means that it may not always be free all the times I am planning on using it. the way I will overcome this is by planning weeks in advance when I want to use this room and make sure 100% that it is booked in for when I want to use it so I know that I can film that day. .

Proposal

Producers; Daniella Blow. Production title; music video ‘Poison’

Brief; to plan, shoot and edit your music video.

Description of my intentions

Page 14: All production docs

My intention of my music video is to be and look professional. I will accomplish this through looking at different professional music videos and how I will use their videos for inspiration. The whole idea of my music video would be a model getting ready for a photo-shoot by putting makeup on/ hair etc. She will have a lot of costume changes and different positions to stand in. Then the photo-shoot will happen but as if she is having a lot of fun, not a serious photo-shoot. She will be dancing around to the song and having a fun time which we will clearly see in the video. I have researched a couple of music videos, both amateur and professional that I thought will thouroughly help me throughout my planning of my music video. it took me a long time to think of an idea as I had a draft idea but I didn’t like it as I didn’t think I would be able to do it to the best of my standard, therefor I decided to change my idea to a more realistic idea that I know I will be able to complete to my best ability. My intentions are to make it fun and not boring. I don’t want the audience to be bored watching my video I want them to enjoy watching it and I think I can do this by not making the different shots long, not making the whole video long as that will lose interest for the audience. I also want everything to go to plan so I will have to organise everything very well, for example booking out filming rooms and organising the actresses that I am using and deciding when the best time to film is. Another one of my intentions is to time keep well. Due to our deadline I don’t want to fall behind everyone else and I want everything to be done in time for the deadline.

Outline of my music video; In my music video, I am having a number of different scene changes. The opening scene of my music video will be shot in the drama studio. The music at this point is slow so I felt that if I did a scene in the dark it will make the music video look more mysterious and gloomy and make the audience wonder what is going to happen once the music kicks in. in the drama studio the actors will be getting ready for the shoot by doing their makeup. Even though the music is slow, I want the tempo of the editing to be fast as I want to compare both of the characters who are doing their makeup the same and I will cut between them both during the short time at the beginning. The location will be all black around them with one spotlight on their face. That will show the audience to look and focus on their face as they will be doing their makeup in the mirrors provided in the drama studio. When the song begins to kick in and gets more upbeat and faster, the scene will change completely to a different location which will be room 19 which is a media room that consists of the green screen and the backdrops which are black and white. Throughout the song I want to have at least 3-4 different scenes that will contain of different props and costumes for each scene that are different. The first scene that will be in room 19 is going to be a backdrop of a green screen which I can then add a different colour background in the editing stage. As there is two characters who are featuring in my music video, I wanted to do an ‘opposite themed scene’ which will just be one of them wearing a full black outfit and the other wearing a full white outfit. Even though it is simple with the black and white theme it will look effective on a bright coloured background. In this scene will just be when the music kicks in they will start to dance around together and jump in the air. This scene is just going to look like they are having some fun together. The next scene I have decided to have is going to be on a black backdrop and there will be lots of balloons, around 20-30 balloons all over the floor and the characters will be lying down and moving around, almost like they are swimming in a pool of balloons. I think this scene will look really effective as it is something a bit different. The next scene they will be dressed in onesies, to say they are having a girly sleepover together. In this scene there will be party poppers and party hats, it is weird and random but it’s meant to be, that’s my idea of my music video, to be fun and by doing this it makes the audience look like this certain photo shoot is a lot of fun. There will also be some bubble blowing in this scene to add that extra stage. At this point the music will be upbeat and fast so easier to move around and dance to it. moreover, as well as having the ‘photo shoot’ scene in my music video, in other music video’s there is

Page 15: All production docs

sometimes a different scene of a person singing the song but only certain lines in the song, for example the chorus. In my music video I will feature Alex Furmston in the drama studio which will be pitch black with a spotlight on her, which she will be singing certain lines of the song which I will edit in between the photo shoot scene to show a contrast of the weird section of the music video but also the more normal side.

Target audience: The target audience for my music video is going to be for female young women who are in the age range of 14-30. I feel this will be the right target audience as two famous girls who are starring in a music video, will attract girls who are big fans of them and even look up to them. However its not to say there can’t be any male fans as some male characters will be big fans of the girls as they are pretty girls who a lot of boys will like and even fancy.

Sound: My music video will just simply consist of non-diegetic sound which will be the sound track of the song I am using. I won’t need any diegetic sound in my music video as they are just going to be dancing and singing to the song ‘Poison’ By Rita Ora. I feel that this is a good successful song to use as the song starts out with a slow tempo, throughout the song it gets faster and more of a beat builds up. I have chosen this song because it is very recent and was released in May 2015. Because it is so recent, younger people would be familiar with this song which is what my audience is. The song reached number 1 on 9 July 2015 and was certified "Poison" gold for selling 35,000 copies.Costumes & props. My music video is going to need a lot of costumes, props due to the different scenes I am having in my music video. I am having 4 different costumes for my music video which are for the 4 different scenes. For my first costume I am having just simply black and white dresses, with black and white heels. Each actress will be wearing either black or white. My other option for an outfit is going to be different colour dresses that I will edit together to make it look like quick costume changes. My next outfit choice is going to be an onesie. This is for the more fun scenes which I think a onesie would be the perfect option for the scene with the bubble machine. In this scene im going to have a bubble machine blowing bubbles at the set and the actresses. I think by having that bubble machine it will look really cool through the camera and make the scene look more interesting. editingIn my editing stage I am going to use the programme premier Pro. I have decided to use this particular programme as I am very familiar with it and how to use all its tools as I have used this programme several times before for previous project and feel everything I need to do for this music video, I am able to do through premier pro. However in my editing stage, I am going to add a few editing techniques which include slow motion and extreme slow motion. For example when the actress is getting all ready, there is going to be a glass of water on the table, which when the beat kicks in on the song, she hits the glass so it falls off the table and smashes, and whilst it smashes I will have that bit in extreme slow motion to add that greater effect of it actually getting smashed. Another part of my music video that will be in slow motion is when they are in the scene with all the balloons around them. That will look really effective I think when all the balloons are moving through the air in slow motion.

CAST: I had no problem choosing my cast for my music video. As soon as I thought about it I knew who I

Page 16: All production docs

wanted to be in mine. A drama/music student who is used to being around cameras and isn’t camera shy. She has been in numerous school plays, drama performances, and theatre’s and music shows so she is very talented. I thought by having her feature in my music video it would turn out to be what my intentions were at the beginning. I wanted someone that can really help my music video be the best it could be which is mainly done through the actors. They are the main stars of music videos which is a really important factor for me, possibly the main thing that I want to focus on because without a good actor to feature in the music video, it will not be to the best of my standard that I originally wanted. Secondly, I wanted 2 people to be in my music video to add a ‘contrast’ or best friend type of music video. I wanted it to be 2 best friends who are having a really fun time together doing a photo shoot. My second need was to have someone who is bubbly and fun and who can just be their self in the video and just show that they are having a really good time and enjoying themselves. I thought of Rebecca Maleney who is my friend but is also one of the funniest people I know. I thought this would be perfect for what I wanted as she can make anything seem fun even when she doesn’t have to be acting. She is the girl who was the main character in my short film which was a huge success in the acting side of things. I was really happy to in what my short film turned out like and that was down to Rebecca’s acting. Because of this I thought it would do no harm to having her help me again. Even though it is really different to a short film, I think she will be good for the role I need.Inspiring Music video’s I have many video’s that I have watched which I think that will inspire me in my own. I want to use a lot of slow motion in my music video which I have watched a couple of professional music videos that feature slow motion. A good slow motion video that I have seen is ‘Ciara I Bet’ which has a lot of elegant slow motion sections in her video. I thought this one was very successful due to the effects of slow motion in it. She is wearing a flowing dress that when it moves, and put in slow motion, it looks amazing and everything is flowing in the air which will catch the audience’s attention and not make them lose interest. I want to do a similar thing with my video but not with the outfit, I think the slow motion with the balloons going everywhere and the friends jumping in the air trying to catch them would be very fun to watch and also very effective at the same time. Another video that caught my eye and wanted to adjust their ideas to mine was an amateur example music video by Clare Hannington. Her music video was a huge achievement as it was filmed very well with slow motion and a lot of close ups and extreme close ups. It had a lot of different shots in which was very effective as it made us more interested in what she was doing, which in reality is boring to watch- putting on makeup. But by her different shots it was making it look more interesting. In my video at the beginning and throughout my music video, is going to be a girl getting ready for her photo shoot, by doing her hair and makeup. I don’t want it to look boring so I am going to use Clare’s video to help me with ideas for different shots to do. I found this video very effective and easy to watch without getting bored. Her shots were impressive and very creative too. Also the fact that she filmed it in a black room makes it look very professional and makes the actors stand out more. This is something I could acknowledge in my own video as the black room is a great idea which I could have a room full of colourful balloons in the black room but light the balloons up. My third music video that has given me inspiration is Megan Trainor’s ‘All About The Bass’ video. This is a performance based music video as there are clips of her singing the song in between the dancing and all the action going on. The video is very colourful all the way through and always has a lot going on in the different shots too. This gives the audience something to always watch as there is always some action in the shots. The background is mostly pink or a pastel colour which makes the video look very bright and also very fun. I took that idea on board and I thought if I had lots of colours in my music video, it will keep the audience more involved and interested. All three of these music videos are very different but they all inspire me for ideas for my music video in different ways. I find all of these video’s interesting to watch which is what I want people to say when they watch my video and for them to not get bored. Which is defiantly something that these videos aren’t and will take all of that on

Page 17: All production docs

bored.

FilmingDuring the course of creating my music video, the most vital part is getting the footage for my music video. This section needs a lot of thinking through and planning. Firstly I needed to book out the rooms on the days that I wanted it which I did. The most convenient times for me to film was during school hours. To make sure the rooms were free I printed out a copy of the room’s timetable and for where the room was free and I worked around that. The room that I filmed in was room 11, a drama room which is all black so I needed to think through how I was going to set up the equipment I needed. The equipment I used was a Cannon 5500D camera, tripod, red head lightings and gels to put over the lights. The way I set the room up for filming was by firstly doing the lights. I put one light at the back, and the other lights either side of where the actor will be standing. I believe this gave the actor the best lighting it could of. At one point I made Rebecca sit on the floor and put water on her face to make it look like she was crying, as my song is about danger and sadness so I wanted to give it that extra danger feel and I felt I could do this really well by putting a Gel over the top of the lights to make Rebecca be in a red light. I thought this looked really effective and it’s defiantly something I want to use in my video.

DistributionMy music video will be put on YouTube when it first gets released. YouTube is a very popular site which has billions of videos, not only music videos, but blogs, films, live shows replays etc. but not only do people use YouTube for watching videos, they can also upload their own videos on their account. Sometimes this can even lead to a career from YouTube and get paid for uploading videos. I will upload my music video to YouTube and as the song that is used in my music video is by a well-known artist in this era and generation, it will get a lot of views which will make the video go viral and popular. As my target audience is for young adults 14-30 year old females I feel YouTube will be a success for my music video as the artist singing the song (Rita Ora) who has 36,129 subscribers on YouTube and 6,859,421 views on all of her videos I feel will have a real positive effect on it. Another platform I want my music video to be shown and played on is the music channels. The music channels show the songs and music videos that are in the charts normally top 100. As this song is popular at the moment by having my music video shown on channels like MTV’s music channel, 4Music will be amazing advertisement for it as well. Young people are really into their music in this generation so spend their free time listening to music channels or YouTube which is where I want my music video to be shown.

locationsI have decided to film in 3 different locations. I felt that by watching other music videos, most of them look more interesting and effective when it has various different locations instead of just one. My original idea was to just have 2 locations which were both going to be filmed which were both featured in school. But as my idea progressed I thought by having a location that is outside will make it look more effective and won’t get boring in any way. Also as both of my locations that I am using at school are both black with a black background and I felt that it would look cooler.

Dropping the camera Make sure that the camera strap is being used at all times and when the camera is not in use, place it down somewhere very carefully, and also do not leave it on the floor or unattended.

Delaying production

Batteries not charged or available for camera and microphones.

Always make sure that before you use the cameras and microphones that there are batteries available for use and fully charged to save halting the whole production times.

Damaging equipment

Equipment left on, overheating, reducing the life of the equipment

Ensure that all equipment is switched off whilst you are not using them. This will save battery for when you need it and not dying mid filming. It will also ensure it won’t overheat as it won’t be left on for a long period of time.

Daniella Blow

Delaying production

Faulty equipment Before usage, check that all the equipment is prior to shooting and that it is on the right setting beginning to ensure all the time in the studio is dedicated to filming and the time isn’t wasted on fixing equipment.

Delaying production

The actor might not be free the day you want to film or they may be ill.

Make sure you book the actor in advance and let them know when you want to film and make sure they are available and aware they are filming the days you need them. Also make sure they are well.

Delaying production

Required equipment unavailable at time of filming

Because of the limited equipment the school has, I must make sure that I hand in my completed equipment booking sheet in advance before the day of the shooting to make sure everything that I need in order to shoot our project is

available for our own useDelaying the production

Weather is bad and not being able to film outside or where you need to film.

Ways to minimise this is to check the weather in advance to which day you are planning to film outside. If you have the chance to film outside when it is nice weather, then take that opportunity there and then even if you were not planning too.
