This is the govenor of bev perdue anThen-Lt. Governor Perdue led our state's efforts during the Defense Department's Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, successfully protecting North Carolina's military bases worth $18 billion and 350,000 jobs to our economy.
It was adopted in 1943 and it’s a cardinal.
By the end of the 1930s, a movement had gained steam to adopt an official state flower in North Carolina.
State motto Motto, Esse Quam Videri (To be rather than to
seem) The General Assembly of 1893 adopted the words
"Esse Quam Videri" as the State's motto and directed that these words with the date "20 May, 1775," be placed with our Coat of Arms upon the Great Seal of the State (Session Laws 1893, c. 145).
State nicknames Name (Carolina) and Nicknames (The
Old North State or The Tar Heel State) Carolina The word Carolina comes from Carolus, the
Latin form of the name Charles. In 1629, King Charles I granted territory in
America to his Attorney General, Sir Robert Heath, to be named Carolina, or the province of Carolina (though later in the same charter the province is referred to as Carolana or New Carolana).

The pine tree The pine was officially
designated as the State Tree by the General Assembly of 1963. (Session Laws, 1963, c. 41). Contrary to popular belief, no specific type of pine tree was specified in the Session Law.
