WELCOME TO THE LIBRARY• Library Hours • How to access the library via website and portal. • Late fees, borrowing • Virtual tour of services & facilities • How to find a book in the library

Library Hours• Open: • Monday to Thursday 7:45 a.m. to 11 p.m.• Friday 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m.• Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.• Sunday 10 a.m. to 11p.m.

Access the library anytime:• From the college website.• From the portal.

Library via Portal• All the same information as website.

Late Fees• When items are returned late a fee is applied. • When fees exceed $10.00 access to library

databases is cut off, and you can’t borrow items.

Books (Gen, Juv, Oversize)

Other items (DVDs, etc) $1.00/day

Replacement fee for lost items

$45.00

Borrowing • 10 items from Shea Library.• Borrow for 28 days, plus renewal. • 20 holds through C/WMARS.

Services & Facilities• Number of Floors– 2 (main and 2nd)• First (main) floor: circulation (main desk), • study rooms (2); • staff offices including Reference (Ron) and Information

Literacy (Sarah & Nancy); • computers; • Reference books; • Reading room (periodicals)

Circulation Desk

Circulation Desk• Check out materials• Return materials (also use drop box outside)• Use reserve books (in library)• Pick up interlibrary loan holds (books)• Get basic help • Update phone number (if having problems with

accessing catalog and databases)

Staff Offices

Information Literacy Office –Nancy Little (Mon- Thurs 8:30-4:30, Sun 10-6)Sarah Smith (Mon-Fri 10-6)

Computers

• 16 computers

• Need AIC ID to use.

• Available from 7:45 to close.

• First come, first serve basis.

• Printer.

Study Rooms: D & E

• Two study rooms located on the first floor: D&E.

• Max capacity = 6

• D has whiteboard and Mac computer.

• E has Mac Computer (no white board)

• No reservations. • First come/first

serve.

Reading Room (Flag Room)

• First Floor• Study carrels• Periodicals

and journals (print).

• Flags from around the world.

• Quiet place to study.

Study Rooms A & B• On the 2nd Floor• Max 6 capacity• White board • No computers• First come, first serve.

Study Room C

• 2nd Floor• Max 10 capacity• White board• No Mac computers• Can reserve

Tutoring Room• 2nd Floor• Follow signs….• NOT a study room!

Stacks• Where the General Collection is located. • 2nd floor of the library.

Library Catalog• Search for books, etc. • Part of C/WMARS network (public and some

academic libraries in Central & Western MA.)

Many ways to search:• You can search for items by:• keyword (default) • title• subject • author • journal title• and series (for example, Harry Potter).

• Don’t search the catalog the way you would Google.

• You won’t get the results you expect. • It will try to find records that contain every single

word that you put in the search box.

Keyword Searching:• Default searching.• Looks for that word or phrase anywhere in the

catalog records. • Many, many results.• Sample search: college students• 590 results• All formats• Change format to books

Keyword Searching• Format: book

(ALL FORMATS)• 579 results• Sorted by

relevance.

Subject Searching• You can also conduct a search by subject (Library

of Congress Subject Headings – LCSH).
