Mandate: Breakfast for learning is national charitable organization that educates and empowers communities across Canada to start and sustain nutrition programs in order to enhance learning and healthy development of children and youth.

Who are they?

First and biggest charity in Canada that helps schools to nourish children

They have been helping schools to keep breakfast, snack and lunch for about 20 years

Believed that children must have proper nutrition in order for them to be successful in their education and be able to reach their full potential.

The Importance of Breakfast Program for Children

Health and Nutrition: Provides the children the nutrients and energy

Also creates healthier eating habits

Prevent health problems such as Gastroenteritis and Obesity

Who are the OEYC?

OEYC is a place for children from ages 0-6 years, their parents and caregivers can take part in the centres programs and activities.

Its a place where parents are able to find information about the development of their children, resources available in the local area for their needs.

Use to have snack program, due to lack of funding from the provincial government they stopped.

Reaction

OEYC Scarborough Southwest center is interested to have the breakfast program again, and they are asking for more information and updates about the breakfast program.

What We Learned

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day

Eating breakfast has positive affects for children, school and for their development

Breakfast helps boost self-esteem

Many schools in Toronto provides a breakfast program

Parents are willing to support of having a breakfast program in schools

The feeling is very rewarding to advocate, volunteer and take part in fundraising to support breakfast programs in order to help families and making difference.
