TO: Active Minds at Ball State University 2015 Chapter Officers Head Advisor, Cathy Whaley FROM: Jake Griffin, Chapter President/Founder DATE: June 07 , 20 15 SUBJECT: Virtual Officer Meeting Minutes /The majority of the meeting was spent exploring and familiarizing ourselves with the new ‘Meeting Burner’ service which our chapter has been awarded a grant for using from the service provider for 12 months. This was found to be a good fit and is more professional and reliable than Google Hangouts which was previously used for Active Minds officer meetings. ****Officers that were not in a8endance for the June 7th meeting are urged to get online at 7pm THIS Saturday to briefly familiarize themselves with how to use the technology for our virtual meetings. Officers are also welcome to join the President in person if they experience difficulties for a tutorial. Given our busy class and work schedules using a tool like this is paramount for productivity. Invites will be sent to those who were not in a8endance for the previous officer meeting. /Allison Walker will continue to work with Alejandro on TShirt designs for Fall 2015 Awareness Bli^. /Thanks to CrossFit WhiteRiver, a new gym in the village, for their small financial contribution to Active Minds and the 2015 /Jake has been in talks with Mental Health America of Indiana about CoSponsoring our Feb 14th awareness bli^ which they are onboard for, the specific contribution has yet to be determined. /Jake is actively working with a volunteer graphic designer on more promotional materials for the Sept 2015 awareness bli^ including designs for: Banners, Flyers, Handouts, and Post Cards. /If you or any of your contingents notice any conflicts with our programming for Sept 14, please advise Jake ASAP so that they can be urged to rescedhule their events. We have a priority date for our Awareness Bli^. Jake is in discussion with the Office of Student Life and the Sorority Council regarding the conflict of their bid day being September 14th…. Attraction: Active Minds cannot function without members. The personal experiences, the fascination, and the desire to get information to the community is what drives this group. We seek like- minded individuals to join our group. We continuously to attract new members via events, promotions, word of mouth, and information sessions. Exposure: We believe that is important to be exposed to mental illness and mental health issues. Your peers and others you encounter may have aspects of their lives that they do not understand or do not feel comfortable talking about. We wish to provide an environment in which one can be open about those issues and in the process expose others to the importance of mental health knowledge. By passing out fliers on disorders, publishing articles in The Daily News, and partnering with BSU’s counseling center, we will expose the community to the stigmas attached to mental illness. We will also demonstrate the fallacies and truths in stereotypes and characterizations involved in mental illnesses. Education: We believe that the Ball State campus communities should have a better understanding of mental health and mental health issues. Through this organization, a person can learn how to cope with stress, relationship issues, death, depressive thoughts, anxiety, and other thought processes. We plan to educate the community achieve this education through a series of seminars, speakers, pamphlets, and demonstrations. We are committed to providing quality information to the BSU campus and surrounding community. Reduction: We plan to reduce the stigma surrounding mental disorders on campus and the surrounding community. We will open up about personal experiences and encourage others to do the same. We plan to work with the National Association for Mental Illness (NAMI.org), help with the crisis hotline, and hold meetings, which will include discussions about dierent disorders and topics.
