Violence is a huge part of action films as in this scene a group of criminals masked as clowns attempt a bank heist. They put people at gun point, beat them, tie them up and sometimes kill. This is a typical convention for an action film. In the dark knight we are kept guessing as these characters speak about a mysterious joker character creating suspense as we are waiting for him to be revealed. Suspense is another common convention of action.
Death in action films is often unnoticed as lots of people die without any focus or justice to their deaths. This is because action is fast paced and cannot wait around for people that ultimately are not the main characters. This means we often ignore these deaths as the film takes us to a new scene or place quickly as we continue to follow the action.
DARK KNIGHT RISES
In the dark knight rises, the opening scene shows it is an action film because of a few conventions. Loud voices often show a dramatic tone leading to the action, this happens when a masked criminal is held outside a plane with a gun to his head. This tells us we are watching an action film.
Techniques used• Shot reverse shot is often seen in action films as it is an easy way to track dialogue
between characters, this matches the fast pace of the film often as characters say little and the editing is very fast to the point you may not even notice. In this scene the main villain is revealed. This often happens at the beginning of the film so that we understand the clear contrast between good and evil from the very start.
• In action movies, characters may form teams to undergo certain operations or missions. These are often filled with very impressive shots and interesting camera shots so the film makers can pretty much show off.
