Student entitlements

• ScHARR Masters students– You are entitled to join the library and

borrow 10 books from the MSc collection. – Your inter-library loans allocation is 14 per

academic year. – You have access to one-to-one training and

general enquiries from library staff.– You can use the library PCs. Photocopying

and printing costs 5p per A4 sheet.

If you are studying a Masters Degree or PhD or work at ScHARR you are entitled to use our document supply service. East

Midlands RDS staff are also entitled to use this service.

The Student Services Information Desk (SSiD) is an important point of contact for you

throughout your time at the University.

Reference Management

• ScHARR Library can provide practical advice and support with regard to reference management. In particular, we provide the following services:– One-to-one training in the use of Reference

Manager– Trent Institute 'Managing References for Your

Research Project' half-day course (ScHARR and 'Trent' NHS and social care staff only)

– Advice on setting up a Reference Manager database and assigning appropriate keywords

– Advice on Reference Manager import filters– Advice on using the mail merge feature within MS

Systematic Reviews

• Information Resources supports ScHARR's work on systematic reviews for NICE and the HTA programme as well as other projects based at ScHARR. We offer not only literature searching support but are also involved in critically appraising the literature, data extraction and data synthesis.

One-to-One Training

• We offer one-to-one training sessions in literature searching and reference management to ScHARR Masters and PhD students, ScHARR staff, and ‘Trent’ NHS & Social Care staff.

• One-to-one training sessions last around 1 hour and take place in the library during standard opening hours (Mon-Thurs 9am-5pm, and 10am-5pm on Fridays).

Study Skills

Need help developing your study skills? ScHARR library’s specialist collection contains books on general study skills techniques and specific advice on areas such as dissertation writing, citing references, studying for your exams, guides specifically for mature and international students, managing your research project and searching the Internet.

All students have access to these study

aides and are entitled to borrow them for four weeks. Please visit us on the 1st floor of Regent Court to register.
