Locations(Planning)
The majority of the Film Trailer is going to
be shot at the school of the Sixth form that
I currently go to. This is because most of
the story line is set at a school. Here are
some photographs I took of parts of my
school, that I thought some of the filming
could take place in.
These particular shots are of the
courtyard in my school. At lunch and
break this area is swarming with students
from the school. So my partner and I had
the idea of shooting the scene in which
that band are fully established in. The
band will walk down through this
courtyard, so the audience will get a
good idea of what the band is like.
This is another photograph of
the courtyard, getting the whole
image of what it looks like and
why it fits the purpose of the
filming here.
Here is a photograph of the
stage at my school, in which
Alex hungers to play on one
day. We plan to film him looking
up at the stage, to show the
journey that he will have to
make to end up there.
Classroom/Study Room
scene
For this scene we needed somewhere
with a lot of natural light, so that we
could get a clear picture of the
‘climax’ scene in the film. This scene
encounters an argument between our
protagonist Alex and one of his best
friends Sarah.
We also needed it to be a study room,
to emphasise the fact that school is at
the centre of the main characters life
and the film’s nature. This is a room in
Owen and I’s sixth form building, that
has a lot of natural light and is rarely
used. It was ideal also because it
showed the genuine reality of our story
line, potentially being a real story,
despite the fact that it’s not.
Music Room
The music room scene is an important part in the
film trailer, as it shows the band, practising and
the issue that arose in this scene, to the audience.
The music room had to be a practise room in a
school as well, because the film story is focused
in a school.
Therefore, we planned this scene and booked
out a practise room in our school that was
spacious enough to fit the band in comfortably.
This music room fits the film perfectly as it is in
our sixth forms main school and it is spacious
enough to fit the actors of the band in. It was
important to find people who knew how to play
a musical instrument. Therefore we did this and
they decided to jam in the music room we
booked out. This proved successful as we just
asked them to jam and an issue to occur and we
just filmed this.
We also want to film a scene in the common
room in our sixth form building, where the
protagonists friendship group was secluded
from the rest of the sixth form. This is to
show the pressures and struggles of
wanting and trying to fit in at
school/college/sixth form college.
This table in our sixth from common room is
barely ever occupied and is secluded from
the rest of the tables in the room. Therefore
it was the perfect place to shoot this scene
that we had in mind.
We wanted to show how unhappy Alex was
in this friendship group, and how he wanted
to be in the same social group in the band.
So we planned to get a mid shot of the
three people in his friendship group,
secluded and in their own little world.
For one of the scenes, we
want it to be outside a
music shop, because it fits
in to one of the main
themes for the film. This
photograph that I took, is
from the window of a local
music shop, in an
industrialised area,
focusing in on the social
realism genres codes and
conventions, for the
environment of the
established film. It is crucial
for this scene to have a
musical element because
it’s a key bonding moment
for the protagonist and his
love interest. This scene
reveals that they have
some common ground.
