In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: A2 Media Evaluation

With our product we managed to weirdly use and challenge certain aspects of conventional music videos.

As our video was quite ‘tongue in cheek’ it had no real relationship between the lyrics and visuals bar a couple of seconds of the clip. There is some relationship between the music and visuals as the movement of our characters matched the tempo of the music and consequently they moved almost in sync.Other than that there are no other conventions of real music videos in ours. We have no close-up of band members and no sense of voyeurism.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Page 6: A2 Media Evaluation

In the ancillary texts I have tried to give reference to the characters in our video to help be recognisable.

I tried to keep the theme of the ancillary tasks the same as the theme from the video. I achieved by using darker background colours to echo the sadness in the first half of our video. I also used a picture of the two thieves in colour to contrast the darker colours as it reflected the change of emotion in the second half of the video.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Page 9: A2 Media Evaluation

Although most people enjoyed our video, the main criticism was that it had little performance aspect to it.

We also had no element of lip syncing which some audience felt could have been added.

We have learned that traditional conventions are important and maybe we should have looked to include more of them.

We felt that we achieved the video that we were looking to as we didn’t really want a conventional, generic type of music video and we followed the style of a normal Kasabian video.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Page 11: A2 Media Evaluation

For the research stage I used YouTube as my source for viewing music videos. I used it to watch videos by Kasabian and other bands of a similar genre or style.

I used other websites such as Kasabian’s official web page and other sources such as the band’s MySpace and facebook.

I used blogger to post all of my work onto as and when I had completed it.

For the construction of my media product I used two different softwares.

For the music video our group used the program iMovie to edit it. We found iMovie was a lot easier and an all round better program to use than say, windows movie maker. We quickly got to grips with iMovie and found it easy to use for our level of film making ability.

For the ancillary tasks I used Photoshop. I am already very familiar with Photoshop and deemed it the most appropriate to make the tasks with.
