How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I created a digipak and magazine advert for my ancillary products both of which were for the same artist I created and used in my music video showing a clear house style linking all three pieces of media together. You can see a clear synergy shown between the different pieces of media because the fonts used are the same and there is an overall colour scheme shown of neon blue, black and white. I chose this colour scheme because after exploring conventions of real pieces of media within the EDM music genre I found that neon is quite a common effect and I wanted to follow convention to create a professional piece of media.

The ancillary products also look at electronic dance music as a genre and this adds to the synergy between my ancillary products and main product. The imagery I chose to use includes a simple character of a cube with a face which although is not very impressive on its own, through use of repitition and using it throughout both ancillary pieces I made it look effective and it worked well as another way to link the media products.

When thinking about the setting I wanted for my main piece I knew straight away I was going to have to have bright lights and maybe even lasers because this would mean that it would fit nicely with the two ancillary products I had designed and the bright neon colour schemes they showcase. Looking back onto my main piece now I think that including these lighting effects in the set was a very nice touch and really identifies the genre of EDM instantly.

A way in which I was having difficulties obtaining synergy between the ancillary products and main product was with the iconography and the simple character design I had on both initial pieces. I overcame this problem by designing a mask from scratch that the artists would wear during the video which was the face of the simple character logo I had created on photoshop and to create the glowing blue neon effect I installed some LED lights to the inside of the mask and turned them on during filming. I was very pleased with the look of this mask when it came to filming.

Finally I believe my media product compares rather well to a real piece of media considering it is an amateur piece of work because it follows many conventions well and is quite interesting to watch. It includes good camera work and editing and looks close to a professional standard of music video. The set created also looks very respectable.
