Skills developed using Digital Technology

As a group we did all our recordings on a simple video camera along with a tripod to collect steady and clear shots for the video, we used final cut to put all of our footage together in a clear way lining it up carefully with the song so that our movement and lip-syncing was in time. During this production I realised how important lighting is to the music video in order to make it look a lot more professional like a music video, compared to when we filmed in a classroom it didn’t look as good. These skills have helped me learn about how much the quality matters of the appearance of the music video.

Skills developed in post-productionAs I did a film last year for coursework, I

already knew angles were important as well as positioning but it is the exact same for music videos especially framing to cut out any unwanted scenery that affect the shot. After learning all these knew skills and refreshing knowledge I think this will help me create a much more professional music video and it will help me avoid messy amateur mistakes.

Skills developed in research and planningResearch and planning is so important when it

comes down to the project itself. Managing the time to film and edit needs a lot of focus, you can’t mess around or burst out laughing in shots, you just don’t have the time. The footage itself with costumes and props and even setting can mean a great deal to the video, for instance when we filmed in a classroom compared to when we filmed in a photography studio. Genre will have a large affect on the mise-en-scene of the music video.

Skills developed using real media conventionsAfter studying typical music videos I have been

inspired to use many techniques in order to make it look for professional like close ups of instruments and singers as well as the actions they do within the videos and the effects they will put on the footage to achieve the affect they desire. I feel I have greatly improved in each area of production I have been greatly inspired by artists and am able to recreate the kind of music video they produce that’s suitable for my intended audience.
