Chapter 5
Presentation, Data Analysis and Interpretation of Data
In this chapter, all the data analysis, results and findings that the researchers had after all the generated data
had been collected will be discussed. It will start from tabulating until the interpretation of the results. All of the
results of the data gathered, analyzed and interpreted will also be discussed in this chapter, in order to provide a
more comprehensive and organized explanation.
The data generated from the study: Each of the movie are watched three times in order to generate
the needed data. Each specific statement problems were separated and placed tables. Each table contains the titles of
each film per column. Then the generated facts were written one by one in each movie. This is also done in the rest
of the specific problem statements. After the all the needed data were gathered each situation (with the Characters of
the movie) in every movie where identified according to its similarities and differences. Then each situation was
discussed and explained in accordance with the Review of Related Literature Materials and Theory and became the
basis for the conclusions and recommendation.
1. What communication situations do the working Mothers and Daughters in the selected films
Anak, Inang Yaya and A Mother’s Story often engage in?
In frame numbers1-4, Medy (Pokwang), a wife and a mother of two children was saying goodbye to her

In frame number4, Medy has been giving birth to her youngest, named Queenie. The doctor was come to
tell that Queenie is suffering from illness called “wet lungs”, but it will not affect either her growth or development.
So, Medy will need money for medications for her daughter.
In frame numbers6-7, Medy is a very happy mother, showing and giving her love and attentions to her
children.
In frame numbers8-12, a scenes that Medy and the concert star was having a conversation about the
upcoming U.S tour. The concert star was convincing Medy to join her in her first concert abroad for just only 7
days, and aside from being Medy was her favorite make-up artist, she convinced again Medy to earn money for her
daughter’s medication. Aside from the talent fee, there will be another thirty dollars per diem. So Medy just made a
computation, which she will be possibly earn a greater amount.

Situation #5 Updates and Sharing

An Excerpt of a research entitled how does the Mother-Daughter Relationship Affects Communication
between Life Mates & Female Peers? Fingerman shared the same ideas as Rosenberger. She said, "In many cases,
the same situations that underlie pleasure also contribute to tensions. Mothers and daughters face the task of
balancing their desire for intimacy against their needs for autonomy". This pertains to that even though how close a
Mother and Daughter relationship was there will be instances where this maternal relationship can be affected by
what is happening around them.
Major Findings:
There are primarily five communication situations the Mother and Daughter in the films often engage in
namely: saying goodbyes, Confiding, Exchange of Messages and lastly, Problems, Issues, Misunderstanding, and
Arguments.
Each of the five communication situations were categorized by the researchers to show the unity and
disunity of the content and theme of the movie.
Saying Goodbye - only happened in the films Anak and Inang Yaya.
Confiding, Exchange of Messages, Sharing and Updates and Problems, issues, Misunderstandings,
Arguments, Confrontation – can be found in Anak, Inang Yaya and A Mother’s story.

means of Confrontations.

The difficulties in communication the working Mothers and Daughters experience when
communicating with each other in the films Anak, Inang Yaya and A Mother’s Story Commonality and
Comparison of the situations can be observed that happened in the three films.
Difficulty #1 Connectedness
Researchers defined Connectedness as by what means of communication both working Mothers and
Daughters able to communicate.
Difficulty #2 Separateness
Researchers defined Separateness as by what means that both working Mothers and Daughters were being
apart.

Researchers defined Closedness as in what topics both working Mothers and Daughters often hinders
communication.
Major Findings:
There are four major aspects of the difficulties in communication the working Mothers and Daughters
experience when communicating with each other in the films Anak, Inang Yaya and A Mother’s Story.
Commonality and Comparison of the situations can be observed that happened in the three films. Namely:
Connectedness, Separateness, Openness and Closedness.
Each of the four difficulties in communication was based by the researchers in the Internal Dialectic
Tensions. The Commonality and Comparison of the situations can be observed that happened in the three films.
Connectedness by means of telephone calls was seen in Anak, Inang Yaya and A Mother’s Story.
Separateness by means of nature of job or work and limited means of communications was observed in the
films Anak, Inang Yaya and A Mother’s story.
Openness often appears in situations like sharing concerns and forgiveness.

Each of three behaviors to resolve problems in communication was based by the researchers in the
Accommodation Theory of Conflict borrowed in the Drama theory of Kincaid. The Commonality and Comparison
of the situations can be observed that happened in the three films.
Competitive behavior was only shown in the film Inang Yaya
Cooperative behavior was shown in the situations of proper and deep conversations, telling updates,
