Introduction - Scope

Applied research

• The challenge of supporting and assisting people adopting available

technology

• Try to find new assistive ways

• Focus on the use of smart devices by people with cognitive decline

(e.g. with Alzheimer symptoms)

Towards:

• Exploring appropriate methodology and tools to develop assistive

applications for people with dementia

• Development of a prototype for pilot testing, and

• Collection of useful data for the development of similar assistive

applications

Results - Analysis

• Prototyping gives us the ability to try new ideas, mainly in the interaction ways with the device (UI)

• Innovative ways to interact with the user with minimal effort • E.g. Prompt: “Today is your daughter’s birthday if you want to call her shake

the device now”

• Prototype tested with MCI patients in Alzheimer Hellas & health professionals find the approach interesting and believe that this can help the patients

• Low implementation & distribution cost

Conclusions – Future work

• Use Rapid Prototyping to test untested areas

• Develop a plethora of mobile applications that replace other technologies

• Distribute mobile applications and collect data from their usage and user’s actions & behavior

• Always respect personal data treat and security considerations

• Make peoples’ life a little better!
