Dear Colleagues,
An increasing number of organisations are exploring the option of HR sharedservice centres, including the use of ‘offshoring’ and/or outsourcing. At theShared Services & Outsourcing for HR conference we will be looking at ways to best set up centralised HR, as well as how to move beyond the transactional aspect of the services and become a decision making unit.
A shared service centre is just one element of a wider change to the way that the HR department operates and is structured. Some high-profile organisations have set up HR shared services, mainly global and multinational companies; there is also increasing take-up in the public sector including and a number of local authorities, in particular in Asia Pacific.
The advantage of this conference is that it will showcase content of HR shared services which will vary from one organisation to another. A shared service centre can provide the full service from routine administration in, for example, recruitment, payroll and training, right through to supplying specialist HR information and advice on HR policy and practice. Outsourcing seems to have become the new trend in organisational strategy. Although the potential economic benefits of outsourcing are thought to be considerable, a growing number of evaluation studies show disappointing outcomes. Cost savings tend to be less than expected and quality sometimes declines. A reason for these outcomes may be that - just like with downsizing and mergers-acquisitions in earlier days - managers tend to focus almost exclusively on economic aspects, ignoring the human and social impacts. This workshop will:
•Define organisational change implied in outsourcing, comparing it to mergers & acquisitions and downsizing•Identify some critical aspects of the transition management process which, when dealt with
