5 Tips for Successful Online Learning!Central Michigan University’sOnline Student Allies
Begin your online class successfully! As a student
in online classes there are several things you can
do to ensure your success early on. Begin your
studies by doing the following five steps:
1. Establish Goals•Determine what you
would like to accomplish this term or semester.
•Post your goals where they can be seen as a reminder; this will help motivate you when you need it!
2. Plan Your Learning Throughout the Course• Plan out course assignments and due dates by
recording them on a visible calendar.
• This will ensure you stay on track or should you fall behind, quickly develop a plan to catch back up.
• If you would like a course calendar, please email [email protected] or fill out the form on the website with your Course ID and whether you would like an .ICS or hard copy.
3. Schedule Time for Class• Students should be able to devote at least 8 to 12
hours per week per course for course work.
• Successful online students cite the ability to create a study schedule and stick to it as a key factor to their success.
• The actual amount of time spent on coursework will vary depending on your skills, learning style, familiarity with the subject matter, the assignment that is due, and the content being presented.
4. Login Frequently•Successful online students consistently
login to their class 4 to 5 days each week.
•This ensures they are kept up-to-date on course information and any changes the instructor may have made.
5. Reach Out and Make Connections• By establishing a connection
with both your instructor and classmates you will be able to lie a foundation for communication throughout the semester.
• Having these connections in an online environment can greatly impact your online learning experience.
