SWOT ANALYSIS

Definition:
“The overall evaluation of a company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and
threats is called SWOT analysis.”
Or
“The overall evaluation of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats is called
SWOT analysis.”
Discover new opportunities. Manage and eliminate threats.
SWOT Analysis is a useful technique for understanding your Strengths and
Weaknesses, and for identifying both the Opportunities open to you and the Threats
you face.
What makes SWOT particularly powerful is that, with a little thought, it can help you
uncover opportunities that you are well placed to exploit.
By understanding the weaknesses of your business, you can manage and eliminate
threats that would otherwise catch you unawares.
More than this, by looking at yourself and your competitors using the SWOT framework,
you can start to craft a strategy that helps you distinguish yourself from your
competitors, so that you can compete successfully in your market.
It’s a way of monitoring the external and internal marketing environment/ factors that are
either helpful or not.
Technique that enables a group / individual to move from everyday problems / traditional
strategies to a fresh perspective.
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
Internal attributes those are helpful to the organization to achieving its objective.
Questions considered calculating strengths:
What advantages does your organization have/ you have?
What do you do better than anyone else?
What unique or lowest-cost resources can you draw upon that others can't/ What unique
you have than others?
What do people in your market see as your strengths? Etc.
SWOT ANALYSIS
Mr. Pankaj Kusum Ramdas Khuspe Page 3
Consider your strengths from both an internal perspective, and from the point of view of
your customers and people in your market. You should also be realistic - it's far too easy
to fall prey to "not invented here syndrome." Also, if you're having any difficulty with
this, try writing down a list of your organization's characteristics. Some of these will
hopefully be strengths! When looking at your strengths, think about them in relation to
your competitors.
For example, if all of your competitors provide high quality products, then a high quality
production process is not strength in your organization's market, it's a necessity.
Weaknesses
Internal attributes those are harmful to the organization to achieving its objective.
Questions considered calculating Weakness:
What could you improve?
What should you avoid?
What are people in your market likely to see as weaknesses?
What factors lose you sales?
Again, consider this from an internal and external basis: Do other people seem to
perceive weaknesses that you don't see? Are your competitors doing any better than you?
It's best to be realistic now, and face any unpleasant truths as soon as possible.
Opportunities
External factors that help the organization achieve its objective.
Questions considered calculating opportunities:
What good opportunities can you spot?
What interesting trends are you aware of?
Useful opportunities can come from such things as:
SWOT ANALYSIS

A useful approach when looking at opportunities is to look at your strengths and ask
yourself whether these open up any opportunities. Alternatively, look at your weaknesses
and ask yourself whether you could open up opportunities by eliminating them.
Threats
External factors those are harmful to the organization to achieving its objective. After
identifying the SWOT’s, identification of the factors and their interdependence helps
clarify the steps needed to achieve the ending objectives.
By specifying clear objectives and identifying internal and external factors that are either
helpful or not, a short and simple SWOT analysis is a useful resource which may be
incorporated into an organizations strategic planning model.
Questions considered calculating threats:
What obstacles do you face?
What are your competitors doing?
Are quality standards or specifications for your job, products or services changing?
Is changing technology threatening your position?
Could any of your weaknesses seriously threaten your business?
A SWOT Analysis can is used for:
Workshop sessions
Brainstorming meetings
Problem solving
Product evaluation
Strategic planning
Competitor evaluation
Personal development planning
You can use it in two ways –
As a simple icebreaker helping people get together to "kick off" strategy formulation, or

In a more sophisticated way as a serious strategy tool.
Aim of SWOT analysis:
The aim of any SWOT analysis is to identify the key internal and external factors that are
important to achieving the objective.
SWOT analysis groups key pieces of information into two main categories:
Internal factors – The strengths and weaknesses internal to the organization.
External factors – The opportunities and threats presented by the external environment.
The internal factors may be viewed as strengths or weaknesses depending upon their impact
on the organization's objectives. What may represent strengths with respect to one objective
may be weak-nesses for another objective. The factors may include all of the 4P's; as well as
personnel, finance, manufacturing capabilities, and so on.
The external factors may include macroeconomic matters, technological change, legislation,
and socio-cultural changes, as well as changes in the marketplace or competitive position.
The results are often presented in the form of a matrix.

Seven simple rules for successful SWOT analysis
1. Be Specific: Avoid gray areas, vague descriptions or fuzzy definitions.
2. Be Objective: Ask for input from a well-informed but objective third party; compare it
with your own notes.
3. Be Realistic: Use a down-to-earth perspective, especially as you evaluate strengths
and weaknesses. Be practical in judging both sections.
4. Apply Context: Distinguish between where the organization actually is today, and
where it could be in the future.
5. Contrast and Compare: Analyze (realistically) in relation to your competition i.e.
better than or worse than your competition.
6. Short and Simple: Avoid needless complexity and over-analysis.
7. Update your marketing plan and goals: Once the key issues have been identified,
define the action steps to achieve change.

Opportunity
Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported to be associated with the use of cefuroxime
axetil and other broad spectrum antibiotics. So it is important to consider it’s diagnosis in
patients administering cefuroxime axetil who develop diarrhoea.
Treatment with broad spectrum antibiotic including cefuroxime axetil alters normal flora
of the colon and may permit overgrowth of clostridia. Studies indicate that a toxin
produced by C. difficile is one primay cause of antibiotic associated colitis.Mild cases of
colitis may respond to the drug discontinuty.
Moderate to severe cases should be managed with fluid electrolyte. When the colitis is
severe or not relieved discontinuance of cefuroxime axetil administration, consideration
should be given to the administration of the oral vancomycin or other suitable therapy.
