If you act like you dont like them, then it doesnt matter how much you like them

If you act like you like them, then whether you like them at all becomes irrelevant

High Expectations

For Themselves

Making earth little softer7The best and the worst teachers have high expectations for studentsGreat teachers have high expectations for themselves

The variable is not what teachers expect of students

The variable what really matters- is what teachers expect of themselves

The main variable in the classroom is the teacher the only behavior in the classroom that the teacher can control is their own

Students & technologies created a new concept!

Making earth little softerDigital technologies have become a central element of the structure of todays society. The youngest, teenagers and children are their main adopters, their natural users. 87

Purpose

IntegrationPersonal sense of efficacy

Making earth little softerIn the literature is still discussed if teachers ICT training is in fact a critical factor for promoting technology-integration in classrooms.

It has been proved that teachers perceived self-efficacy affects teachers professional goals and aspirations (Muijs & Reynolds, 2002), their involvement on planning instructional activities, enthusiasm in classroom (Schwazer & Schwitz, 2004) and attitudes toward innovation (Smylie, 1998).

If teachers do not feel comfortable in using ICT, these tools will hardly be envisaged as a useful resource and even less as a strategy for innovative teaching and learning activities.

Several authors have argued that an effective integration of ICT in students learning activities will require their presence in teachers training.

It is very difficult for a teacher to be able to use ICT in a productive way and within a curriculum-oriented approach if they were not given the time to explore, understand and plan teaching activities and projects where such technologies do have an expression.

Encoding knowledge

PhysicalPsychologicalEncoded

Learning

Studying

3 worlds, three knowledge-realities

Making earth little softer89In learning you directly give mean to your environment and the social context you are acting in.In studying you have to decode encoded knowledge to a non-verbal psycholical world in which you can give your meaning to the content (instead of just learning by hart: copying the meaning given as it is written in the book)

Spell the Expectations

Making earth little softer90Establish very clear expectations Follow them consistently / Consistently reinforcedDont focus on What am I going to do if students misbehave? / Focus on the futureExpect good behaviorHave procedures a consistent way that they expect something to be done

In Contrast RulesOften focus on undesirable behaviorsMade for the few

Remember, if you can prevent the fire, youll never use the fire extinguisher!

Making earth little softer91

Manage Misbehavior

Making earth little softer92Goal: to keep it from happening againMotivated to preventDont want students angry as a solutionIs concerned with how student behaves in future

Great Teachers Dont

What can teachers do when a student misbehaves?

Making earth little softer93DontYellArgueUse sarcasmTreat students with respect

Students we are tempted to yell at have been yelled at so much, why would we think this would be effective with them?

As professional adults, we never win an argument with a student We would like to win but the student has to winGreat teachers know it is never appropriate in the classroom Found in the thesaurus for sarcasm -mockeryscorndisdaincynicism

Close to drop-out teachers!

Making earth little softerNowadays, it is confirmed that ICT are widely used in European schools. In Portugal, like in many other European countries, research studies has found that ICT has been poorly adopted in classrooms activities.

Parents and teachers are the two most important people on the face of this Earth.

Making earth little softerThe only factor that can create student achievement was the significance of a teacher.

Making earth little softerThe beginning is the most important part of the work

Making earth little softerThere is no way to create good schools without good teachers

Making earth little softerClassrooms should run like well researched orchestras

Making earth little softerLife is not a destination.Life is a journey. As long as you continue the journey,You will always be a success!

Making earth little softerWhen you look at truly effective teachers, you will also find caring, warm, lovable people.

Making earth little softerLove is the reason for teaching!

Making earth little softerOne hundred years from now it will not matter what kind of a car I drove, what kind of a house I lived in, how much I had in the bank account, or what my clothes looked like. But the world will be a better place because I was important in the life of a child.

Making earth little softerThe three AREs:Teachers ARE important!Teachers ARE influential!Teachers ARE able to make a difference!

Making earth little softerThe two worst things a parent can give a young person are money and wheels. ....The two most important things a parent can give a child are roots and wings!

Making earth little softerIf you touch a rock, you touch the past. If you touch a flower, you touch the present. If you touch a child, you touch the future

Making earth little softerWhat Great Teachers Do Differently

Seven Simple Secrets: What the Best Teachers Know and Do

Making earth little softer112

One of the best-kept secrets of the very best teachers is that they have very few discipline problems

Making earth little softer113They do have discipline challengesAs long as there are students there will always be discipline challengesNever allow those challenges to become problems

One hallmark of effective teachers is that they create a positive atmosphere in their classrooms and schools....So try to be one!

Making earth little softer114Treat everyone with respect Even the best teachers may not like all their students but they act as if they do.

If you act like you dont like them, then it doesnt matter how much you like them

If you act like you like them, then whether you like them at all becomes irrelevant
