Review Game for Grades 2-3: Multiplication Fluency & Problem-Solving
Summary of Usage• By the end of the game, students will have have strengthened their
multiplication fluency and problem-solving skills. • This lesson plan falls under the 2nd grade math ALCOS objective of
Operations and Algebraic Thinking which expects students to be able to work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication by determining whether a group of objects has an odd or even number of members, using addition to find the total number of objects arranged in rectangular arrays, and writing an equation to express the total as a sum of equal addends.
• This game would be played as a review before a multiplication test, and would take place during the scheduled math time.. The class should be divided into two fair teams with students of varying abilities on each. The students will take turns answering questions (in standard Jeopardy form, e.g. “What is…?”) and may ask for help from their teammates if they are unable to answer their particular question. The teacher will set a reasonable time limit for each question and will keep score.
