Apple Varities of World

ByAllah Dad

Khan

There are about 7,000 varieties of apples in the world, according to Cook's Wisdom, so even if you tried a different apple every day it would take you nearly 20 years to sample the entire spectrum. However, this is an unlikely way to spend two decades because the most common varieties can actually be found in the U.S.—Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Gala, and McIntosh.

Apple Varities

Red Delicious has many sports and ranks as the world's most prolific apple.

Although it is grown in most apple-producing regions, its easiest volume comes from the Northwest and the Mid-Atlantic states. The Winesap is of medium size, with a thick red skin and crisp, crunchy, and juicy flesh. The flavor is sweetly tart with a winy aftertaste. it is an excellent all-purpose apple.

Sunrise apple is another one of the earlier types of apples, or summer apples, that are available in the Okanagan.

The Sunrise apple variety was developed at the Summerland Research Station Apple Breeding Program. Its a cross between a McIntosh and a Golden Delicious apple. The fruit are medium to large sized, and the apple is crisp and juicy right off the tree! Sunrise apples are a yellow-red color, with more red on the side that is exposed to the sun, and with a distinguishable pear-grape flavor.

As a typical summer apple, it does not keep long, and is best for eating fresh. Sunrise apples are also delicious in those easy summer desserts like apple cobbler, and for making homemade apple juice!

Sunrise Apple (Mid Summer)

Summerred is a Golden Delicious and McIntosh cross, like the Sunrise apple. Summer Red's are a delicious early apple, with a bit of a tart and delightful crispness for a summer apple.

Yellow Transparent is just about the earliest summer apple. It is medium-large with translucent pale yellow skin.
