Classification of Living Things
What is classification?
It is the grouping of living organisms
according to similar characteristics.
A scientist called Aristotle grouped animals according to the way they moved
The Animal kingdom is divided into 2 groups.
Vertebrates InvertebratesAnimals with a

Invertebrates include:
Snails
1) Mollusks(include many shelled
animals)
2) Echinoderms
Clams Sea urchin
Star fish
Invertebrates also include:
Spiders
Arthropods(Largest invertebrate phylum)
Crabs Insects
Lobster
Vertebrates include:
Mammals
Birds Fish Reptiles
Amphibians
Mammals
Hair or fur (to keep warm)
Ex. Polar bear
Lungs(to
breathe in

Give birth
to babies

until it can live alone)

babies milk.
