Are Print resources still used?

What is a dictionary?

Information literacy includes all formats: print, digital, audio, video, logos, images, social media, apps, and“transmedia.”

Attention-Critical Inquiry

We live in a state of distraction due to the digital revolution.

It is our individual responsibility to become critical evaluators of our media intake.

Problem: Clutter! A sea of chaos requires navigation skills.

Page 6: 21st Century Literacy for Cyborgs

Participation- Collaboration

We now live in a participatory culture. There is no going back to the old hierarchy.

Learning is best done through collaboration with others.

Problem: TMI! Think about what you add to the sea of chaos. A good digital citizen participates without shouting nonstop.

Page 7: 21st Century Literacy for Cyborgs

Global Network

Distance is no longer relevant. Anyone can share user-generated across the globe.

Creating a personal & professional learning network is crucial.

Problem: The blurry line between personal / professional life requires balance, ethics, and a clear focus of intent.

Digital Citizenship

Digital footprints are created by each of us. Think about your online image and what you hope to impart to others.

Intellectual freedom and intellectual property are not dead! Give credit to others when due.

Problem: Post, Tweet, Pin? Is it yours? Who is your target audience? Family, students, colleagues…?

Page 9: 21st Century Literacy for Cyborgs

Preservation - Sustainability

• Ebooks (Will they last? Are you hoarding print?)• Digital archives• The new “golden traits” are not knowledge and

expertise- but flexibility and adaptability.

Problem: Digital clutter is as cumbersome as physical clutter (maybe more so?) Learn strategies for archival.
