Many of the tools listed above are available in open-source versions that can reduce costs significantly.

Why the Tools are Necessary• Technology tools available to educators provide unique ways

to engage students in the learning process. Engaged learners are less bored, more likely to achieve the learning goals set out for them, and more likely to stay in school.

• Future Ready Curriculum/21st Century Skills should be taught in a 21st Century context. That means learners should be focusing on how to select and use the appropriate technology tools for real-world problem solving, communication, and collaboration.

• Business leaders recognize the clear economic need to provide

student access to the technology tools enhancing productivity and innovation in the workplace so that students will be employable when they leave school.

• One Laptop Per Child Initiative- If children in some of the poorest regions of the world are being provided laptops to connect with other cultures around the globe, we should not deny our own children that opportunity--especially if it will help them be more competitive internationally.
