Senior social media use accounted for the steepest increase in all age groups from 1% in 2006 to 34% today.

Looking across generations, here are some interesting observations:• The average user of a social networking site has more

close ties and is half as likely to be socially isolated as the average American.

• Facebook users are much more politically engaged than most people.

• Roughly two thirds of social media users say that staying in touch with current friends and family members is a major reason they use these sites.

• Half say that connecting with old friends they’ve lost touch with is a major reason behind their use of these technologies.

Looking across generations, here are some interesting observations:• 46% of adult internet users post original photos or videos

online that they themselves have created. The Pew study calls them creators.

• 41% of adult internet users take photos or videos that they have found online and repost them on sites designed for sharing images with many people. They’re called curators.

• 40% of Facebook users in the Pew sample made a friend request; 63% received at least one request.

• 15% of Facebook users update their own status.• 26% “Like” another user’s content.

• How do I create a new list to organize my friends? • To create a new custom list: Go to the timeline of a friend

like a friend or coworker, type their name into the open field and press enter.

• Posts and photos you’ve hidden on your timeline are still visible to the audience they're shared with other places on Facebook, like in News Feed and search.

• Report.• Change password immediately.

• Someone else is using my name.• Duplicate names are allowed.• If using your identity, report.

Groups provide a closed space for small groups of people to communicate about shared interests. Groups can be created by anyone.

Privacy: Groups can be open, closed, and secret. In secret and closed groups, posts are only visible to group members.

Audience: Group members must be approved or added by other members. When a group reaches a certain size, some features are limited. The most useful groups tend to be the ones you create with small groups of people you know.

Communication: In groups, members receive notifications by default when any member posts in the group. This CAN be turned off! Group members can participate in chats, upload photos to shared albums, collaborate on group docs, and invite members who are friends to group events.
