5th Grade Schedule
• Specials: Everyday 8:20-9:10• Recess: Everyday 12:45-1:15• Lunch: Everyday 1:15-1:45
GMB• Every Monday and Friday starting at
7:43 with a movement song.• Birthday’s announced every Monday• Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday
will have a movement song, pledges, and manner of the day.
• Dismissed to go back to class at 7:50• Breakfast is served from 7:20-7:35
Attendance
• Absences: Absence excuse notes need to be brought to school the day the child returns from an absence.
• Parent e-mails to teacher will be forward to our data clerk and will count as the excuse note.
• Reminder: New School Hours7:50-2:50

STAAR Testing – 5th • What is it?
– State Test to enhance Rigor for students & get them “College Ready”• Timed Test (4 hours) – Just like SAT/ACT• Assesses previous grade level objectives to current grade (K-5th)• Reading STAAR- emphasizes critical analysis & less literal understanding• Math STAAR- Problem solving skills• Science STAAR- Earth Science; Force & Energy; Environment & Organisms
• No School ratings this year; standards set Fall 2012• Math (March 27), Reading (March 28) & Science (April 26)

Dismissal Procedure
• Please send an email or a note if you have any dismissal changes
• CAR RIDERS- All students who are car riders must be picked up in the 3rd-5th car line. Please have your name plate displayed in the window.
• Students who walk home will be released by the playground/bike racks.
Grading Policy• Assignments scoring below 70% can
be corrected for higher grade. 70% is the maximum score given on corrected assignments.
• Academy will be assigned for students who do not return homework or who have unfinished work.
Homework• Regular daily homework should
take no longer than 50 minutes.• Make-up work and unfinished
class work will be sent home in addition to regularly assigned homework.
• Notice will be given in advance for long term projects.
Discipline Procedures• Thursday folder will be signed for no homework,
excessive off-task behavior, disrespect to peer/teacher, not following school-wide expectations.
• Please sign the red Thursday folder calendar each week. Look for informational papers and graded papers. Empty the folder and return on Friday.
• Please review the “Behavior Consequences” page for consistent misbehavior.
• Rewards: Classroom reward system, Positive Referrals-Ducks in a Row, MVP of the week, etc.
