Chapter Objectives

1. To be aware of some selected Foreign Folk Dance in the different countries of Europe;

2. To recall the basic dance steps and the terminologies to be used in the dances originated from Europe;

3. To react actively upon the meaning of the dance and its symbols;4. To display attitude while performing the dance; and5. To perform the dances from Europe with accuracy of steps and with the

proper attire (costume), music and formations.

Europe has a long tradition of dancing. Most of their folk dances are formed for the

need of the people to socialize, interact and enjoy unlike the dances from Asia.

You will learn to dance Varsovienne from Germany, Irish Lilt from Ireland and

Tarantella from Italy. The instructions will be given in English. You will learn to dance to

interesting rhythms of authentic traditional music. The dances are more on feet movement

because of the climate. You will learn dances with interesting symbolic meaning and historic

background. You will learn dances only for men, dances only for women and couple dances.
