1419 Prince Henry started a navigation school. 1460 King Henry died. Portugal established trading centers on West African coast.
1488 Captain Bartolomeu Diaz of Portugal explored Southern tip of Africa.
1492 Spain paid Columbus to explore;he was first(?) European in Caribbean, North America.
1493 Pope Alexander VI established Line of Demarcation to set up peace between Spain and Portugal.
1494 Portugal & Spain signed Treaty of Tordesillas to share North & South America.1497 Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama explored east coast of Africa.1498 de Gama reached Calicut, India.1499 de Gama and crew return to Portugal and earn an enormous profit from cinnamon and pepper from India.
