Musique Concrete is a form of electroacoustic

music that utilises acousmatic sound as a

compositional resource.

Electroacoustic Focus on the melody, harmony, rhythm, meter.

Also include it being synthetic, wide range sound which can

imitate others or generate new timbres.

The compositional material is not

restricted to the inclusion of sounds

derived from musical instruments or voices,

nor to elements traditionally thought of

as “musical”.

Reduced Listening How does distance react to the listener from the sound produced? Focus upon environment / room.

Collage / montage / layering Compositional and aesthetic techniques (notes slide 1)

Pitch / Timbre Changing Build a character of quality, sound / voice distinct from pitch and intensity instance of meaning! Sound is clear where ever placed, what ever sound can blend and bond with other sounds.

Envelope changes Not a static quantity, changes over the duration of the sound. Intensity does not change in an instant from silence to peak level; requires a certain amount of time, ATTACK TIME. Amount of time required for the intensity of the sound to diminish to nothing is called the DECAY TIME / RELEASE. How effectively can I apply this to certain sounds?

Arrangement - ‘concrete or contemporary’ Research into styles and what I feel comfortable with. Focus upon resources in each category, can I find examples and progress in a creative manor? “Modern vs. concrete” Could it be modern day sound but blended into concretes techniques?

‘Typical found sounds’ percussion set – pitfalls Identifying a sound. Does it work in a concrete or contemporary aspect? Is there any unsuspected danger or difficulty?
