About Me

Im 16 years old, I attend South Downs College in Hampshire studying multi-media journalism and my ideal job would be in media. I’d like to be doing something involving photography, magazines or something creative in journalism.

Future Plan

In the future I would eventually like to be writing and editing the Vogue magazine. Or I would love to be the photographer for the many pictures inside the magazine.

Magazine Editor

A magazine editor is a senior level journalist responsible for the planning and execution of consumer and trade magazines. These editors choose the exact content, including written work and photos, the print or web magazine will publish. They manage the style of all printed publications and oversee the overall editorial direction of a publication. • Need to have creative skills to produce a magazine that

appeals to readers. • You need financial, commercial and legal skills and

knowledge, and the ability to manage the staff.• Most editors have substantial experience as a journalist.

Magazine Editor

A fashion magazine editor is in charge of the writers who report on the latest fashion trends. These editors ensure that writers are within the publishing guidelines and meet the deadlines. Editors may have a degree in journalism, English or something related. A fashion editor could also have a background in fashion design. Due to magazine editors usually working in an office they would have the “typical” 9-5 working hours. A magazine editors salary could be about 51,000 pounds depending on how well you do.

I’d like to work as a magazine editor as the object you create is going to be read by thousands. I love reading magazines so much more than newspapers as they’re fun and each one has a different theme and is written for a different audience. I’d like to focus on fashion magazines such as “Look” and hopefully “Vogue”.

Photographer

A photographer is someone who takes unique photos for a client as a job. Photographers usually work for special events such as weddings, birthday parties and graduations etc. For these sort of events photographers are hired by the client yourself. On the other hand, a photographer works for a company, either to take photographs for a website page or for a specific magazine. • You need to be determined to get the right pictures.• Have the skill of a high technology camera.• Be able to handle pressure.

Photographer

Not all photographers are freelance photographers with individual clients whom hire them for family events, portraits etc. But for the ones that are, their day can be filled with recruiting new workers, answering and sending emails, marketing and scheduling. On a day to day lifestyle, a fashion photographer would spend their day at catwalks and around fashion filled shops.

I’d love to work in the photography industry as famous photos on websites, magazines or on peoples walls are taken by you. The environment sounds interesting and you would be going to different places instead of attending work everyday in the same building with all of the same people.

SWOT analysisStrengths: Can work in a team. Find it easy to pick up and learn things easily. Reliable and always on time. Creative. Positive.Weaknesses: Can sometimes lose focus. Sometimes am unorganised.Opportunities: Qualifications needed; A degree in the subject I am definitely interested in doing. Work experience in a media based company. Have to be creative, have an open mind and prepare to work long hours and gain experience with minimal pay.Threats: Many other people compete for this job and there are not a lot of occupations for it locally. Not having the right experience for an ideal job.

My target grades for college are D*DD.

Portsmouth News

• I want to apply for work experience at Portsmouth News because I feel I would benefit me. It is local to me and would help me to get a good idea of the possible job I want to do when I’m older. I could shadow someone for a day, ask any questions I have and it would be a good thing to include on a CV – to say I’ve had some experience in the industry.
