10 Tips for Engineering Students“Engineering is the art of directing the great source of power in nature for
the use and convenience of man.”- Thomas Tredgold
A career in engineering is not only challenging, but also interesting. The
engineering students are made for the leadership and shaped to take
steps to succeed. Engineers make society function. They design our
roads, our transit, our communications, our lives – you could say there’s
an engineer behind everything in your life.
Here are some best tips, most of which would work for any career-
aspiring college student:
1. Derive inspiration from successful people:
Derive inspiration from those who followed right path and touched the
height of success. Always try to swallow their good characteristics and
apply it to your life. Always set some motivation for your life so you will
get inspired from them and try to achieve success as they did.
2. There is no shortcut to success:
There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs. If you want to
achieve something in your life, then you have to give your best in that.
No one will come to you and give the job or money or any kind of degree,
you have to get up and start to do hard work on it. Hard work is the only
way which can drive you to reach your goal.
3. Give priorities to your own goals:
It is always good not to procrastinate your duties. It is always better to do
a task or work regularly rather than procrastinating things. You should
always set some priorities to your own goals and other task. If there are
some plans to your task, then you will never delay to your any kind of
task.
4. Learn your mistakes and rectify them:
Every person made some mistakes and try to learn from it. Even this is
the best way to reach our goal like practice makes man perfect. Always
try to learn some things from mistakes rather than ignoring them. Rectify
your each mistake and give your best always.
5. Work in teams as much as you can:
Whether it’s sport or participating in a drama or any kind of competition
of e-paper in college. Try to involve in organization and give your best
output to your team. So, you absorb the tendency to do task with a
number of people. May be, it will help you in your career while you are
doing your projects with the team.
6. Always try to know your professors:
Develop a relationship with your professor, it will help you and feel more
comfortable. Get to know one or two key professors particular, so they
always ready to help you with homework or any kind of practical help.
Even though they will help you in job references or any program
references.
7. Ask questions, both in class and out:
You can ask questions or doubts to your teachers, for example, you can
ask for additional examples to better understanding or to clarify for
difficult equations and concepts. More often than that your friends will
thank you for speaking up and teachers will appreciate you for your
activeness in the lecture.
8. Try to solve problems before asking for help:
Whenever you try to solve your homework, you will clear about the things
and you understand it more clearly. There is no sense, if you are asking
for a solution without even try it once. When you are going to try for the
solution, you will get clearer about the basic knowledge and it is better
for the process of interviews. You have answers for each question while
you are facing interviews.
9. Teach someone else:
Teach someone else is one of the most effective way of ensuring you
understand something. Once you got a confidence of teaching to others
that means you are ready to solve the doubts of others also. Each new
subject and concept will build on the last, so don’t move on until you’ve
mastered each new idea.
10. Build your network:
Start building your professional relationship, don’t wait until you need a
job. Attend extracurricular lectures, workshops so you will get a
certificate and prizes also. And also you get to know as many people
working or studying in your field as possible. Take genuine interest in the
work of others, ask lots of questions. Don’t afraid because they were
once neophyte engineers too!
Just go through above points and start to follow it, definitely it will be very
helpful to you. All the very best for your engineering journey!
