1. The font of the title is scribbles which creates the idea of teenage girls doodling in their books at school. This would be stereotypical of a loved up teen to do and could be considered conventional as it relates to the plot of the story 2. The long shot of the stereotypical girly teenagers creates this idea of a typical high school romantic drama. This a typical convention of a romance as it revolves around everyday lives (high school social groups) As romances are aimed at females, it also allows the audience to relate to the film 3. The long shot introduces the main character of the girl which is a typical convention of a romance film as the main character is also introduced. There is also a contrast between her and the other girls shown through the choice of cars and change in music, this could also be considered a typical convention as there is normally a conflict between the main character or the main character is an outcast espcially as no one else is in the car with her 4. The mid shot of the girls looking away and down from the main character, backs up the idea that she is an outcast and different from the rest, which would be a typical convention of a romance as the main character is normally an outcast and doesnt fit in Romances also tend to explore status, there could be a hint of this here by all the girls looking down and away from her 5. The close up shows her disapprovingly looking at the girls, which further backs the idea that she is different to them which introduces the characters personality a little more (shes an outcast) which is a typical romance convention. 6. The Ariel shot of the two cars, the main characters being more forward shows that she isnt with society and more by isolated from everyone, which backs up the point of her being an outcast. The choice of cars also reflect the main characters personality as hers is a run down car where as the groups of girls have a convertible. This hints that she does not care about what people think about her. This could be considered a typical convention as in stereotypically in romances, the main character is independent and doesnt care about what people think about them 7. The mid shot of her ripping down the poster is conventional as it shows she is not the average high school girl who wants to attend prom. Again, further backs the idea she is different and an outcast, which is a typical convention. Throughout the piece, the main character is introduced rather than the boy meets girl. Both are conventional however they have only chosen to introduce the girl, connoting she is the most important within the film, which would be conventional as the majority of the time, the lead role is female in order to appeal to the audience.
