Women’s financial needs are different from men

Surprised? But it is true While the general principles of

financial planning are universal, Women face unique challenges that

amount to different financial needs


We live longer • An average Indian woman lived three years

more than her male counterpart according to 2009 data

• While a woman lived for 66 years, the Life Expectancy of an Indian man stood at 63 years.

• Women live longer than men so they need 10-15% more for retirement


We earn less • The World Economic Forum report reveals a

shocking disparity between the wage structure of men and women in Corporate India

• The average annual income of employee in the India’s corporate sector is – a woman in India is US$ 1,185 – A Man in India is US$ 3,698

• On an average women earn a third only 33% of a man earns in India!!!!


– Income is only a third

– Life expectancy higher by three years

– Have to save more from lower earnings!!!


Older we get more dependent we are

• Almost 1 in 4 women are broke within two months of a husband passing away

• They are dependent on their children for all needs

• 53% of women are not covered by a pension compared to only 22% of men

• A staggering 87% of the poverty stricken elderly are women


The statistics are startling—but we are not taking charge….

But do we understand the seriousness of the issue?


No, because….. Recent all India survey involving nearly 4,800 women

investors

The survey was conducted among women between 21 and 60, 35 being the average age

It was carried out in five metros —nine other large cities across India. Of the total number of women surveyed, around 1,550 were working and 3,200 did not have a job


Less than one in five single working women, excluding those divorced and widowed, take their own investment decisions

Less than 19% of single working women take their own decisions


Why is it so?

Are we incapable?


We are capable

We buy every thing for the house

We can run our business

We are very good at our jobs

We radiate authority on daily basis


But….. We depend on others for financial

decisions

Despite handling responsibilities at workplace, we depend on

parents

family members

friends and

financial advisers when it comes to taking a call on money matters such as where and how much to invest
